A Baseline and Vision of Ultrasonic Guided Wave Inspection Potential
TLDR
In this article, the authors provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential as we move forward into the new millennium and provide a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guidance wave inspection commonplace in the next century.Abstract:
Ultrasonic guided wave inspection is expanding rapidly to many different areas of manufacturing and in-service inspection. The purpose of this paper is to provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential aswe move forward into the new millennium. An increased understanding of the basic physics and wave mechanics associated with guided wave inspection has led to an increase in practical nondestructive evaluation and inspection problems. Some fundamental concepts and a number of different applications that are currently being considered will be presented in the paper along with a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guided wave inspection commonplace in the next century.read more

Lamb wave propagation in vibrating structures for effective health monitoring
TL;DR: In this paper, the propagation capability of Lamb wave in a vibrating thin aluminum plate is examined experimentally, where two circular shaped piezoelectric wafer active transducers are surface-bonded on the plate where one acted as an actuator and another as a sensor.

A wave-based damage index for the analysis of the filtered response of damaged beams
TL;DR: In this article, a wave propagation-based damage index is proposed, which relies on the evaluation of the strain energy distribution associated with propagating waves and can be used as an indicator which potentially locates, quantifies and classifies the damage.

Ultrasonic Waves in Solid Media
TL;DR: In this article, the theory of elasticity was introduced and basic formulas and concepts in complex variables in the theory and application of wave propagation were discussed. But the authors did not consider the effects of wave scattering on the wave propagation experiments.
