Abstract
Ultrasonic guided wave inspection is expanding rapidly to many different areas of manufacturing and in-service inspection. The purpose of this paper is to provide a vision of ultrasonic guided wave inspection potential aswe move forward into the new millennium. An increased understanding of the basic physics and wave mechanics associated with guided wave inspection has led to an increase in practical nondestructive evaluation and inspection problems. Some fundamental concepts and a number of different applications that are currently being considered will be presented in the paper along with a brief description of the sensor and software technology that will make ultrasonic guided wave inspection commonplace in the next century.

Piezoelectric Phased Array Acousto-Ultrasonic Interrogation Of Damage In Thin Plates

TL;DR: Ashish S. Purekar et al. as discussed by the authors developed a methodology with the benefits of the modal approach as well as the Ultrasonics/Acoustic Emission approach to determine the presence of delamination damage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Joint spectrogram segmentation and ridge-extraction method for separating multimodal guided waves in long bones

TL;DR: A joint spectrogram segmentation and ridge-extraction (JSSRE) method was proposed to separate multiple modes in long bones and showed that the extracted ridges were in good agreement with generated theoretical dispersion curves, and the reconstructed signals were highly related to the original signals, even under the SNR=3 dB situation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Remote characterization of defects in plates with viscoelastic coatings using guided waves.

TL;DR: A hybrid finite element-boundary element method which explicitly includes the attenuating characteristics of the coating is used to determine Lamb and SH mode conversion factors at corrosion defects under the coating.

Inverse Shape Reconstruction of Inner Cavities Using Guided SH-Waves in a Plate

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed an inverse reconstruction method for inner cavities in a 2D plate using guided SH-waves, where a pure incident wave mode is sent toward the flaw area, reflected waves are observed at the far field due to mode conversion.
Journal ArticleDOI

High-speed non-contact defect imaging for a plate-like structure

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the generated wave shape and measurement speed on the defect images was investigated using a contact piezoelectric transducer as a receiving device.

Ultrasonic Waves in Solid Media

TL;DR: In this article, the theory of elasticity was introduced and basic formulas and concepts in complex variables in the theory and application of wave propagation were discussed. But the authors did not consider the effects of wave scattering on the wave propagation experiments.
