Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of temperature on volatile fatty acid production and microbial community structure during anaerobic fermentation of microalgae.

TL;DR: Bacterial communities at different operating temperatures consisted mostly of the phyla Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Firmicutes, which can degrade organic compounds effectively, suggesting that this microorganism contributed significantly to the higher hydrolysis rate and VFA yield at this operating temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bioinformatic method for protein thermal stabilization by structural entropy optimization

TL;DR: This work describes a bioinformatic method incorporating sequence alignments to redesign proteins to be more stable through optimization of local structural entropy, which was able to design more stable variants of a mesophilic adenylate kinase with only the sequence information of one psychrophilic homologue.
Journal ArticleDOI

Possible synergy effect of hydrogen sulfide and acetate produced by sulfate-reducing bacteria on inflammatory bowel disease development

TL;DR: In this paper, two dominant sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) morphotypes differed in colony size and quantitative ratio in the feces of healthy and colitis patients were observed and identified, and these findings can lead to the development of possible risk indicators of ulcerative colitis prevalence.
Journal ArticleDOI

A novel multiplex PCR assay for Salmonella subspecies identification.

TL;DR: A novel multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay with six primer pairs for Salmonella subspecies identification with high precision is developed.
