Journal Article
Isolation of soil Streptomyces as source antibiotics active against antibiotic-resistant bacteria
TL;DR: The focus of this study was the in vitro antimicrobial activities of Streptomycetes, bacteria commonly found in soil and known antibiotic-producers, and evaluated for their inhibitory activities on seven microorganisms including multiple antibiotic resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Who is in there? Exploration of endophytic bacteria within the siphonous green seaweed Bryopsis (Bryopsidales, Chlorophyta).
Joke Hollants,Olivier Leroux,Frederik Leliaert,Helen Decleyre,Olivier De Clerck,Anne Willems +5 more
TL;DR: The presence and phylogenetic diversity of microbial communities within the cytoplasm of two Bryopsis species suggest that Bryopsis closely associates with well-defined endophytic bacterial communities of which some members possibly maintain an endosymbiotic relationship with the algal host.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bacteria-Killing Type IV Secretion Systems.
Germán G. Sgro,Gabriel Umaji Oka,Diorge P. Souza,William Cenens,Ethel Bayer-Santos,Bruno Y. Matsuyama,Natalia F. Bueno,Thiago Rodrigo dos Santos,Cristina E. Alvarez-Martinez,Roberto Kopke Salinas,Chuck S. Farah +10 more
TL;DR: This review will focus on this special subtype of T4SS by describing its distinguishing features, similar systems in other proteobacterial genomes, and the nature of the effectors secreted by these systems and their cognate inhibitors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic diversity in Treponema pallidum: implications for pathogenesis, evolution and molecular diagnostics of syphilis and yaws.
TL;DR: Genome analyses of pathogenic uncultivable treponemes revealed striking similarity among these bacteria and also a high degree of similarity to the rabbit pathogen, Treponema paraluiscuniculi, a trePoneme not infectious to humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic diversity in proteolytic enzymes and amino acid metabolism among Lactobacillus helveticus strains.
Jeffery R. Broadbent,H. Cai,Rebecca L. Larsen,Joanne E. Hughes,Dennis L. Welker,V. de Carvalho,Thomas A. Tompkins,Ylva Ardö,Finn K. Vogensen,A. De Lorentiis,Monica Gatti,Erasmo Neviani,J. L. Steele +12 more
TL;DR: This article performed comparative genome hybridizations to a CNRZ 32 microarray to explore the distribution of genes encoding such enzymes across a bank of 38 Lb. helveticus strains.
