Journal ArticleDOI

Functions, Compositions, and Evolution of the Two Types of Carboxysomes: Polyhedral Microcompartments That Facilitate CO2 Fixation in Cyanobacteria and Some Proteobacteria

TL;DR: This review presents this review to summarize the knowledge of the structure and function of both types of carboxysome, and casts light on differing evolutionary trajectories which may have led to the differences observed in extant car boxysomes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ecology and transmission of Buruli ulcer disease: a systematic review.

TL;DR: Traditional and non-traditional methods for indicting the roles of living agents as biologically significant reservoirs and/or vectors of pathogens are discussed, and an intellectual framework for establishing criteria for transmission is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evolution of multicellularity coincided with increased diversification of cyanobacteria and the Great Oxidation Event

TL;DR: The results suggest that multicellularity could have played a key role in triggering cyanobacterial evolution around the Great Oxidation Event, and an origin of cyanobacteria before the rise of atmospheric oxygen.
Journal ArticleDOI

Climate influence on Vibrio and associated human diseases during the past half-century in the coastal North Atlantic

TL;DR: It is reported, for the first time, that a warming trend in sea surface temperature is strongly associated with spread of vibrios, an important group of marine prokaryotes, and emergence of human diseases caused by these pathogens.
