Journal ArticleDOI
Diversity of the metabolic profiles of a broad range of lactic acid bacteria in soy juice fermentation
Olivier Harlé,Hélène Falentin,Jérôme Niay,Florence Valence,Céline Courselaud,Victoria Chuat,Marie-Bernadette Maillard,Eric Guédon,Stéphanie-Marie Deutsch,Anne Thierry +9 more
TL;DR: Nearly all (97%) the sucrose-positive strains fermented soy juice, indicating that an ability to use sucrose is a good criterion to select strains for soy juice fermentation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prebiotic Supplementation of In Vitro Fecal Fermentations Inhibits Proteolysis by Gut Bacteria, and Host Diet Shapes Gut Bacterial Metabolism and Response to Intervention.
TL;DR: Bacterial adaptation to different dietary protein sources was observed through different patterns of ammonia production between vegetarians and omnivores, and the addition of prebiotics reduced the negative consequences of high protein levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Deployment of Genetic and Genomic Tools Toward Gaining a Better Understanding of Rice-Xanthomonasoryzae pv. oryzae Interactions for Development of Durable Bacterial Blight Resistant Rice.
Anirudh Kumar,Rakesh Kumar,Debashree Sengupta,Subha Narayan Das,Manish K. Pandey,Abhishek Bohra,Naveen K. Sharma,Pragya Sinha,Hajira Sk,Irfan Ahmad Ghazi,Gouri Sankar Laha,Raman Meenakshi Sundaram +11 more
TL;DR: This review discusses about the origin and occurrence of BB in rice, interactions between Xoo and rice, the important roles of resistance genes in plant’s defense response, the contribution of rice resistance genes toward development of disease resistance varieties, identification and characterization of novel, and broad-spectrum BB resistance genes from wild species of Oryza and also presents a perspective on potential strategies to achieve the goal of sustainable disease management.
Journal ArticleDOI
b-type dihydroorotate dehydrogenase is purified as a H2O2-forming NADH oxidase from Bifidobacterium bifidum.
TL;DR: The purified enzyme was characterized as the enzyme that catalyzes the DHOD reaction and also catalyzes a H2O2-forming NADH oxidase reaction in the presence of O2, suggesting that the enzyme could be involved in H 2O2 production in highly aerated environments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stars of the terrestrial deep subsurface: A novel ‘star‐shaped’ bacterial morphotype from a South African platinum mine
TL;DR: Using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, a novel, branching, filamentous, star-shape bacterium has been found, adding a new bacterial morphotype and strategy that bacteria have demonstrated to increase their surface area to volume ratio.
