Spatial Variation in Manufacturing Technology and Cost Efficiency: Georgia, 1987

Bin Zhou
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the locational efficiency within the manufacturing sector for different kinds of places and examine the capital intensities determined by comparative advantages in these places, concluding that the most efficient locations for manufacturing have moved to adjacent areas.

Revisiting Armington and AIDS: How Sensitive Simulated Pattern of Trade is to Functional Form Choices?

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compare the Armington specification with the AIDS specification for electronic goods using comparatives tatic analysis, and show that using different specifications of the trade structure in economic models can significantly alter the simulated patterns of trade, both in terms of magnitude and direction of changes in trade flows.

U.S. Crop Yields Redux: Weather Effects versus Human Inputs

TL;DR: Schlenker et al. as discussed by the authors developed a county level biomass production function for an 800-mile climatic gradient from the Rocky Mountains to the Mississippi River (41o N latitude) using a panel data set that includes 101 counties for the 1960-2008 period.

Resource and output trends in the United States since 1870

TL;DR: In this paper, a very brief treatment of three questions relating to the history of our economic growth since the Civil War is given, namely: (1) How large has been the net increase of aggregate output per capita, and to what extent has this increase been obtained as a result of greater labor or capital input on the one hand and of a rise in productivity on the other? (2) Is there evidence of retardation, or conceivably acceleration, in the growth of per capita output? (3) Have there been fluctuations in the rate of growth of output, apart
