Variability of total and mobile element contents in ash derived from biomass combustion

TL;DR: In this paper, seven samples of the ash derived from biomass, representing both fly and bottom ash, were analyzed for a wide spectrum of total and mobile contents of nutrient and potentially risk elements.

Effect of Fuel Additives on Agricultural Straw Pellet Quality

TL;DR: In this article, an investigation was conducted to determine the effect of addition of different levels of AK2, a fuel additive that reduces ash fusion for agricultural biomass, on the physico-chemical properties of biomass pellets.

Real-time combustion rate of wood charcoal in the heating fire basin: Direct measurement and its correlation to CO emissions.

TL;DR: The results implied that a complex relationship between the combustion and pollutant emissions existed in Phase I, and presented the possibility of estimating the fuel burning rate based on emission measurements in Phase II, or vice versa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Herbage production and chemical characteristics for bioenergy production by plant functional groups from semi-natural grasslands

TL;DR: In this paper, a study was performed for three semi-natural grassland types in Estonia which were represented by five NATURA 2000 meadows each, and the highest yield was obtained from alluvial meadows followed by mesic and wooded meadows.
Journal ArticleDOI

Testing a new method for quantifying Si in silica-rich biomass using HF in a closed vessel microwave digestion system

TL;DR: In this paper, a closed vessel microwave digestion using hydrofluoric acid (HF) was used to quantify the amount of silicon (Si) in sugarcane leaves and the solutions were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES).

Wood ash composition as a function of furnace temperature

TL;DR: In this paper, the elemental and molecular composition of mineral matter in five wood types and two barks was investigated as a function of temperature using thermal gravimetric analysis, differential thermal analysis, inductively coupled plasma emission spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction.

Ash deposition during biomass and coal combustion: A mechanistic approach

TL;DR: In this article, a mechanistic approach to describing the fate of inorganic material in solid fuels with a particular focus on the mechanisms of ash deposition is presented. But this approach has the potential of embracing a large range of fuel variations, combustor types, and operating conditions without the need of developing extensive databases or testing procedures for each new situation.
