Findings highlight the difficulty in treating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections and the potential danger of emerging resistant enterobacteria.
Abstract
Genetic determinants of a bla NDM-1 -positive, multidrug-resistant bacterial isolate that caused active infection was investigated by DNA sequencing. Two plasmids, pKOX_NDM1 and pKOX-R1, were identified for the Klebsiella oxytoca strain E718. Sequence annotation revealed a bla NDM-1 gene in pKOX_NDM1 and two extended-spectrum β-lactamase producers ( bla CTX-M-3 and bla SHV-12 ) and a wide array of resistance genes in pKOX-R1. These findings highlight the difficulty in treating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections and the potential danger of emerging resistant enterobacteria.

NDM Metallo-β-Lactamases and Their Bacterial Producers in Health Care Settings.

TL;DR: New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase will remain a severe challenge in health care settings, and more studies on appropriate countermeasures are required, as commonly used phenotypic tests cannot specifically identify NDM.

Carbapenem-Nonsusceptible Enterobacteriaceae in Taiwan

TL;DR: Although the prevalence of CPE is still low, careful monitoring is urgently needed, as intra- and inter-hospital spread of KPC-2-producing K. pneumoniae and IMP-8-producing E. cloacae likely occurred.

Genomic Characteristics of NDM-Producing Enterobacteriaceae Isolates in Australia and Their blaNDM Genetic Contexts

TL;DR: Genomically characterized 12 NDM-producing Enterobacteriaceae isolated in Australia between 2012 and 2014 and identified five particular plasmid types with specific blaNDM genetic contexts, three of which were IncFII plasmids (FII-A to -C) and P. rettgeri was not conjugative.

Genetic Features of blaNDM-1-Positive Enterobacteriaceae

TL;DR: The blaNDM-1 gene was carried by different plasmid types (IncA/C, IncF, IncL/M, or untypeable) and was likely chromosome borne in two isolates and coharbored a variety of resistance determinants, including β-lactamase genes, quinolone resistance genes, and 16S RNA methylase genes.
