Effects of carbon dioxide/bicarbonate on induction of DNA single-strand breaks and formation of 8-nitroguanine, 8-oxoguanine and base-propenal mediated by peroxynitrite

TLDR
It is found that bicarbonate caused a dose‐dependent increase of up to 6‐fold in the formation of 8‐nitroguanine in calf‐thymus DNA incubated with 0.1 mM peroxynitrite, whereas it produced no apparent effect on 8‐oxoguanine formation.

Peroxynitrite-induced membrane lipid peroxidation : the cytotoxic potential of superoxide and nitric oxide

TL;DR: It is concluded that the conjugate acid of peroxynitrite, peroxlynitrous acid (ONOOH), and/or its decomposition products, i.e., .OH and nitrogen dioxide (.NO2), initiate lipid peroxidation without the requirement of iron.

Oxidative chemistry of peroxynitrite.

TL;DR: This chapter presents that essentially all of the nitric oxide produced by rat alveolar macrophages activated with phorbol ester is converted to peroxynitrite, a strong oxidant that can be stored for weeks in alkaline solution or even entrapped in solid forms.

TL;DR: Evidence that NO• plays a role in joint damage in rheumatoid arthritis is evidence that nitro‐aromatics may be ‘markers’ of NO•‐dependent oxidative damage.
