Energy efficiency and consumption — the rebound effect — a survey

TLDR
In this paper, a review of some of the relevant literature from the US offers definitions and identifies sources including direct, secondary, and economy-wide sources and concludes that the range of estimates for the size of the rebound effect is very low to moderate.

Designing Policies to Make Cars Greener

TL;DR: This paper reviewed what is known about the economic efficiency of fuel taxes relative to efficiency standards aimed at mitigating environmental externalities from cars and presented a simplified model of car choice that allows us to emphasize the relationships between fuel economy, other car attributes, and miles traveled.

Building sustainable societies: exploring sustainability policy and practice in the age of high consumption

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method of disassembling a set of disassembly points, called DISSERTATION, which is based on disassemblage-of-dispersal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rebound effects from speed and acceleration in electric and internal combustion engine cars: An empirical and conceptual investigation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used dynamometer test results for a plug-in electric car and an internal combustion engine (ICE) pick-up van with automatic transmission, each on the WLTP and NEDC drive cycles, representing driving styles from today and 1975 respectively.
Journal ArticleDOI

Peak Oil profiles through the lens of a general equilibrium assessment

TL;DR: The authors disentangles the interactions between oil production profiles, the dynamics of oil prices and growth trends through a general equilibrium model in which peak oil endogenously emerges from the interplay between the geological, technical, macroeconomic and geopolitical determinants of supply and demand under non-perfect expectations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of the energy efficiency potential of household lighting in Switzerland using a stock model

TL;DR: In this article, a dynamic model is developed that accounts for the change of the lighting stock per technology over time, and the authors assess the energy efficiency potential in household lighting, and develop a model to evaluate the change in lighting stock over time.

Economics and consumer behavior

TL;DR: Deaton and Muellbauer as mentioned in this paper introduced generations of students to the economic theory of consumer behaviour and used it in applied econometrics, including consumer index numbers, household characteristics, demand, and household welfare comparisons.
Journal ArticleDOI

Technology, Prices, and the Derived Demand for Energy

TL;DR: In this article, an industrial demand for energy is essentially a derived demand: the firm's demand for the energy is an input, derived from demand for a firm's output, which is an output.
Journal ArticleDOI

Individual Discount Rates and the Purchase and Utilization of Energy-Using Durables

TL;DR: In this article, a model of individual behavior in the purchase and utilization of energy-using durables is presented, where the tradeoff between capital costs for more energy efficient appliances and operating costs for the appliances is emphasized.
Journal ArticleDOI

Economic Implications of Mandated Efficiency in Standards for Household Appliances

TL;DR: In this article, the authors argue that the indiscriminate use of mandated standards will backfire, but a mix of selective standards and reliance on prices as a restraint can be effective.

Qualitative Choice Analysis: Theory, Econometrics, and an Application to Automobile Demand

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a detailed study of automobile demand and use, presenting forecasts based on the powerful new techniques of qualitative choice analysis and standard regression techniques, which are combined to analyze situations that neither alone can accurately forecast.
