Energy efficiency and consumption — the rebound effect — a survey

TLDR
In this paper, a review of some of the relevant literature from the US offers definitions and identifies sources including direct, secondary, and economy-wide sources and concludes that the range of estimates for the size of the rebound effect is very low to moderate.

The food waste hierarchy as a framework for the management of food surplus and food waste

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examine the factors that give rise to food waste throughout the food supply chain, and propose a framework to identify and prioritize the most appropriate options for prevention and management of food waste.
Journal ArticleDOI

Empirical estimates of the direct rebound effect: A review

TL;DR: The evidence in favour of Jevons Paradox is far from conclusive, but it does suggest that economywide rebound effects are larger than is conventionally assumed and that energy plays a more important role in driving productivity improvements and economic growth than is normally assumed as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fuel efficiency and motor vehicle travel: the declining rebound effect

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an empirical specification for motor vehicles based on a simple aggregate model that simultaneously determines vehicle-miles traveled (VMT), vehicles, and fuel efficiency.

Global Energy Assessment: Toward a Sustainable Future

TL;DR: The Global Energy Assessment (GEA) as mentioned in this paper brings together over 300 international researchers to provide an independent, scientifically based, integrated and policy-relevant analysis of current and emerging energy issues and options.

The Duality of Technology and Economic Behaviour

TL;DR: In this article, a modern approach to the theory of marginal productivity, employing the production function and the marginal productivity correspondence, is presented, and the set of feasible production plans from the point of view of economic behaviour.

A decomposition of the price and income elasticity of the consumer demand for gasoline

TL;DR: In this paper, a model of the short run demand for gasoline is proposed to decompose a consumer's gasoline demand elasticities into miles-driven and driving-efficiency components, and the model is estimated using detailed household survey data which allows direct focus on the short-run, holding both the household's automobile stock and demographic profile fixed.

Unobservables in Consumer Choice: Residential Energy and the Demand for Comfort

TL;DR: In this paper, a model of consumption of residential energy in dwellings is developed, distinguishing between attributes of housing that provide direct benefits to consumers and attributes that serve as inputs in the production of final goods, for example, the thermal comfort of dwellings.
Journal ArticleDOI

The impact of improved mileage on gasoline consumption

TL;DR: In this article, a simple two-equation model is presented of the short-run derived demand for gasoline that incorporates both the effect of price and income on attained fuel efficiency and, at the same time, the impact of price, income, and attained fuel consumption on miles traveled.

Effect of Thermal Improvements in Housing on Residential Energy Demand

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the standard utility-maximizing model to calculate the marginal price per unit of warmth in the face of lower per unit warmth, which is a function of home warmth, W and other goods.
