TLDR
Considering that vitamin D deficiency is very common in all age groups and that few foods contain vitamin D, the Task Force recommended supplementation at suggested daily intake and tolerable upper limit levels, depending on age and clinical circumstances.Abstract:
Objective: The objective was to provide guidelines to clinicians for the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of vitamin D deficiency with an emphasis on the care of patients who are at risk for deficiency. Participants: The Task Force was composed of a Chair, six additional experts, and a methodologist. The Task Force received no corporate funding or remuneration. Consensus Process: Consensus was guided by systematic reviews of evidence and discussions during several conference calls and e-mail communications. The draft prepared by the Task Force was reviewed successively by The Endocrine Society's Clinical Guidelines Subcommittee, Clinical Affairs Core Committee, and cosponsoring associations, and it was posted on The Endocrine Society web site for member review. At each stage of review, the Task Force received written comments and incorporated needed changes. Conclusions: Considering that vitamin D deficiency is very common in all age groups and that few foods contain vitamin D, the Task Force recomme...read more

Dietary Vitamin D Restriction in Pregnant Female Mice Is Associated With Maternal Hypertension and Altered Placental and Fetal Development
Nancy Q. Liu,Yi Ouyang,Yasemin Bulut,Venu Lagishetty,Shiao Chan,Bruce W. Hollis,Carol L. Wagner,Ozlem Equils,Martin Hewison +8 more
TL;DR: Recovering vitamin D periconceptually partially reversed the effects of vitamin D deficiency and provided further evidence that low vitamin D status may predispose pregnant women to dysregulated placental development and elevated blood pressure.

The Prevalence of Vitamin D Deficiency and the Determinants of 25(OH)D Concentration in Older Irish Adults: Data From The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA).
Eamon Laird,Aisling M O'Halloran,Daniel Carey,Martin Healy,Deirdre O'Connor,Patrick Moore,Tom Shannon,Anne M. Molloy,Rose Anne Kenny,Rose Anne Kenny +9 more
TL;DR: Vitamin D deficiency is common among older Irish adults and the data indicate the need for targeted strategies within sections of the older population to improve vitamin D status.

Recommended dietary intakes for vitamin D: Where do they come from, what do they achieve and how can we meet them?
Kevin D. Cashman,Mairead Kiely +1 more
TL;DR: There is substantial evidence that the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency is high across Europe, particularly, but not exclusively, among those resident at Northerly latitudes, and current dietary intakes of most populations, young and adult, are well short of the newly established DRVs.

The effect of cholecalciferol for lowering albuminuria in chronic kidney disease: a prospective controlled study
Pablo Molina,José Luis Górriz,Mariola D Molina,Ana Peris,Sandra Beltrán,Julia Kanter,Verónica Escudero,Ramón Romero,Luis M Pallardó +8 more
TL;DR: In addition to improving hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D supplementation with daily cholecalciferol had a beneficial effect in decreasing albuminuria with potential effects on delaying the progression of CKD.

TL;DR: In this article, the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] level and bone and mineral events was analyzed in Japan, and the following assessment criteria for vitamin D sufficiency/insufficiency/deficiency were presented.

TL;DR: A system for grading the quality of evidence and the strength of recommendations that can be applied across a wide range of interventions and contexts is developed, and a summary of the approach from the perspective of a guideline user is presented.

TL;DR: The data support a link between TLRs and vitamin D–mediated innate immunity and suggest that differences in ability of human populations to produce vitamin D may contribute to susceptibility to microbial infection.

Dietary Reference Intakes for Calcium and Vitamin D
TL;DR: The evidence supported a role for these nutrients in bone health but not in other health conditions, and there is emerging evidence that too much of these nutrients may be harmful.
