Human Hippocampal Neurogenesis Persists in Aged Adults and Alzheimer's Disease Patients.

TLDR
It is demonstrated that hippocampal neurogenesis is persistent through the tenth decade of life and is detectable in patients with mild cognitive impairments and Alzheimer's disease and that it is possibly associated with cognition.

Blood factors transfer beneficial effects of exercise on neurogenesis and cognition to the aged brain.

TL;DR: A liver-to-brain axis by which blood factors can transfer the benefits of exercise in old age is identified by identifying glycosylphosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase D1 as a factor in plasma that might mediate this favorable effect.
Journal ArticleDOI

Restoring Wnt/β-catenin signaling is a promising therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer's disease.

TL;DR: Restoration of Wnt/β-catenin signaling represents a unique opportunity for the rational design of novel AD therapies through inhibition of amyloid-β production and tau protein hyperphosphorylation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of HMGB1, RAGE, and TLR4 in Alzheimer's Disease (AD): From Risk Factors to Therapeutic Targeting

TL;DR: The contribution of HMGB1 and its receptor signaling in neuroinflammation and AD pathogenesis is discussed, providing evidence of its beneficial effects upon therapeutic targeting.

Evidences for Adult Hippocampal Neurogenesis in Humans.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors highlight the critical methodological aspects that should be strictly controlled in human studies and the robust evidence that supports the occurrence of adult hippocampal neurogenesis in humans.
Journal ArticleDOI

Formation and integration of new neurons in the adult hippocampus

TL;DR: A review of recent advances in the field based on single-cell RNA sequencing, intravital imaging and functional observation of newborn cells in behaving mice can be found in this article.

Conducting Meta-Analyses in R with the metafor Package

TL;DR: The metafor package provides functions for conducting meta-analyses in R and includes functions for fitting the meta-analytic fixed- and random-effects models and allows for the inclusion of moderators variables (study-level covariates) in these models.
Journal ArticleDOI

Neurogenesis in the adult human hippocampus

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that new neurons, as defined by these markers, are generated from dividing progenitor cells in the dentate gyrus of adult humans, indicating that the human hippocampus retains its ability to generate neurons throughout life.
Journal ArticleDOI

Are the Dorsal and Ventral Hippocampus Functionally Distinct Structures

TL;DR: Behavior, anatomical, and gene expression studies that together support a functional segmentation into three hippocampal compartments are reviewed, finding gene expression in the dorsal hippocampus correlates with cortical regions involved in information processing, while genes expressed in the ventral hippocampus correlate with regions involved with emotion and stress.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamics of Hippocampal Neurogenesis in Adult Humans

TL;DR: It is concluded that neurons are generated throughout adulthood and that the rates are comparable in middle-aged humans and mice, suggesting that adult hippocampal neurogenesis may contribute to human brain function.
Journal ArticleDOI

An autoradiographic study of the organization of the efferet connections of the hippocampal formation in the rat

TL;DR: The efferent connections of the hippocampal formation of the rat have been re‐examined autoradiographically following the injection of small quantities of 3H‐amino acids into different parts of Ammon's horn and the adjoining structures to indicate quite clearly that each component of the hippocampusal formation has a distinctive pattern ofefferent connections.
