The mechanisms of specialized pro-resolving mediators and omega-3 essential fatty acid pathways that could help us to understand their physiological functions are covered.Abstract:
Advances in our understanding of the mechanisms that bring about the resolution of acute inflammation have uncovered a new genus of pro-resolving lipid mediators that include the lipoxin, resolvin, protectin and maresin families, collectively called specialized pro-resolving mediators. Synthetic versions of these mediators have potent bioactions when administered in vivo. In animal experiments, the mediators evoke anti-inflammatory and novel pro-resolving mechanisms, and enhance microbial clearance. Although they have been identified in inflammation resolution, specialized pro-resolving mediators are conserved structures that also function in host defence, pain, organ protection and tissue remodelling. This Review covers the mechanisms of specialized pro-resolving mediators and omega-3 essential fatty acid pathways that could help us to understand their physiological functions.read more

Resolvin D2 Induces Resolution of Periapical Inflammation and Promotes Healing of Periapical Lesions in Rat Periapical Periodontitis.
Yasir Dilshad Siddiqui,Kazuhiro Omori,Takashi Ito,Keisuke Yamashiro,Shin Nakamura,Kentaro Okamoto,Mitsuaki Ono,Tadashi Yamamoto,Thomas E. Van Dyke,Shogo Takashiba +9 more
TL;DR: Intracacanal treatment with Resolvin D2 resolves inflammation and promoting calcification around root apex and healing of periapical bone lesions, suggesting that the data suggest that RvD2 induces active resolution of inflammation with pulp-like tissue regeneration after root canal infection and thus maybe suitable for treating periAPical lesions.

TL;DR: In vivo anti-cancer studies revealed the effectiveness of CNPs to reduce tumor growth and angiogenesis in melanoma, ovarian, breast and retinoblastoma cancer cell-induced mice, with their conjugation with folic acid, doxorubicin, CPM, or CXC receptor-4 antagonist ligand eliciting higher efficiency.

Resolution of inflammation is altered in chronic heart failure and entails a dysfunctional responsiveness of T lymphocytes
Valerio Chiurchiù,Alessandro Leuti,Stefano Saracini,Davide Fontana,Panaiotis Finamore,Renato Giua,Lucia Padovini,Raffaele Antonelli Incalzi,Mauro Maccarrone +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that patients with CHF show alterations in producing proresolving mediator RvD1 and a failure of adaptive immune cells in responding to the anti‐inflammatory actions of RvDs that may contribute to the progression of chronic inflammation.

Elevation of serum sphingosine-1-phosphate attenuates impaired cardiac function in experimental sepsis.

TL;DR: It is shown here for the first time that the impaired left ventricular systolic contractility in experimental sepsis is attenuated by FTY720, and Mechanistically, the results indicate that activation of S1P2 by increased serum S 1P and the subsequent activation of the PI3K-Akt survival pathway significantly contributes to the observed cardioprotective effect of FTY 720.
