Prospects of Colloidal Nanocrystals for Electronic and Optoelectronic Applications

TL;DR: Nanocrystals (NCs) discussed in this Review are tiny crystals of metals, semiconductors, and magnetic material consisting of hundreds to a few thousand atoms each that are among the hottest research topics of the last decades.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ligand exchange and the stoichiometry of metal chalcogenide nanocrystals: spectroscopic observation of facile metal-carboxylate displacement and binding.

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that nanocrystals lack a single chemical formula, but are instead dynamic structures with concentration-dependent compositions, and suggest that ligands displace L-M(O2CR)2 by cooperatively complexing the displaced metal ion as well as the nanocrystal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Forging Colloidal Nanostructures via Cation Exchange Reactions

TL;DR: This review provides an up to date overview of the complex colloidal nanostructures that could be prepared so far by cation exchange and gives an account of the fundamental thermodynamic and kinetic parameters governing these types of reactions as they are currently understood.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cation exchange on the nanoscale: an emerging technique for new material synthesis, device fabrication, and chemical sensing

TL;DR: With better mechanistic understanding and control, researchers may be able to advance the field to a stage where a custom nanostructure of arbitrary complexity would be achievable by simple cation exchange chemistry and a basic understanding of the periodic table.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cation Exchange: A Versatile Tool for Nanomaterials Synthesis

TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental thermodynamic and kinetic basis for cation exchange reactions in colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals and highlight its synthetic versatility for accessing nanomaterials intractable by direct synthetic methods.

Hard and soft acids and bases

TL;DR: In this paper, the rate data for the generalized nucleophilic displacement reaction were reviewed, and the authors presented a method to estimate the rate of the generalized displacement reaction in terms of the number of nucleophiles.

Synthesis and characterization of nearly monodisperse CdE (E = sulfur, selenium, tellurium) semiconductor nanocrystallites

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple route to the production of high-quality CdE (E=S, Se, Te) semiconductor nanocrystallites is presented, based on pyrolysis of organometallic reagents by injection into a hot coordinating solvent.
Journal ArticleDOI

New Directions for Low-Dimensional Thermoelectric Materials**

TL;DR: In this article, the ability to achieve a simultaneous increase in the power factor and a decrease in the thermal conductivity of the same nanocomposite sample and for transport in the same direction is discussed.

Solution-processed PbS quantum dot infrared photodetectors and photovoltaics

TL;DR: Sittingizing conjugated polymers with infrared-active nanocrystal quantum dots provides a spectrally tunable means of accessing the infrared while maintaining the advantageous properties of polymers, and makes use of the wavelength tunability afforded by the nanocrystals to show photocurrent spectra tailored to three different regions of the infrared spectrum.
