TLDR
R1 is a program that configures VAX-11/780 computer systems and uses Match as its principal problem solving method; it has sufficient knowledge of the configuration domain and of the peculiarities of the various configuration constraints that at each step in the configuration process, it simply recognizes what to do.

Parallelism in production systems

Anoop Gupta
TL;DR: The thesis proposes a parallel version of the Rete match algorithm which exploits parallelism at a very fine grain, and suggests that a suitable architecture to exploit the fine-grained parallelism is a shared-memory multiprocessor, with 32-64 high performance processors.

Classification problem solving

TL;DR: A broad range of heuristic programs—embracing forms of diagnosis, catalog selection, and skeletal planning—accomplish a kind of well-structured problem solving called classification, which provides a useful framework for recognizing and representing similar problems, for designing representation tools, and for understanding why non-classification problems require different problem-solving methods.

Configuration as Composite Constraint Satisfaction

TL;DR: A general constraint-based model of configuration tasks represented as a new class of nonstandard constraint satisfaction problems, called composite CSP is presented, providing a more comprehensive and efficient basis for formulating and solving configuration problems.

Knowledge-Based Configuration: From Research to Business Cases

TL;DR: This book represents the first time that corporate and academic worlds collaborate integrating research and commercial benefits of knowledge-based configuration.

An Expert System Assisting Decision-Making of Reactive Power/Voltage Control

TL;DR: In this paper, an expert system is developed to assist in the decision-making of the reactive power/voltage control problem, and empirical rules are used to generate appropriate control actions when slight voltage violations occur.

Rete: a fast algorithm for the many pattern/many object pattern match problem

TL;DR: The Rete Match Algorithm is an efficient method for comparing a large collection of patterns to a largeCollection of objects that finds all the objects that match each pattern.

Production rules as a representation for a knowledge-based consultation program

TL;DR: The MYCIN system has begun to exhibit a high level of performance as a consultant on the difficult task of selecting antibiotic therapy for bacteremia and issues of representation and design for the system are discussed.

OPS: a domain-independent production system language

TL;DR: Some of the issues that bear on the design of production system languages are explored and the adequacy of OPS is tried to show for its intended purpose.

Production system conflict resolution strategies1

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore the role of conflict resolution in providing support for production systems designed to function and grow in environments that make large numbers of different, sometimes competing, and sometimes unexpected demands.
