TLDR
R1 is a program that configures VAX-11/780 computer systems and uses Match as its principal problem solving method; it has sufficient knowledge of the configuration domain and of the peculiarities of the various configuration constraints that at each step in the configuration process, it simply recognizes what to do.

Configuration Management with Version Sets A Unified Software Versioning Model and its Applications

TL;DR: A unified versioning model is proposed, the version set model, which provides one single formalism to express all versioning dimensions as well as constraints on them, integrating SCM concepts like revisions, variants, workspaces, and configurations in one single model.

Differing Methodological Perspectives in Artificial Intelligence Research

Rogers Hall, +1 more
- 15 Sep 1985 -
TL;DR: It is argued that researchers should make their methodological orientations explicit when communicating research results, to increase both the quality of research reports and their comprehensibility for other participants in the field.

VT: an expert elevator designer that uses knowledge-based backtracking

TL;DR: VT (vertical transportation) is an expert system for handling the design of elevator systems that is currently in use at Westinghouse Elevator Company and its architecture provides structure for a representation of its domain-specific knowledge that reflects the function of the knowledge in problem solving.
Journal ArticleDOI

An analysis of the structure of expert knowledge

TL;DR: Application of dialectical inquiry is proposed to assist the knowledge engineer in improving the validity of the underlying knowledge base of the expert systems under consideration.

Production rules as a representation for a knowledge-based consultation program

TL;DR: The MYCIN system has begun to exhibit a high level of performance as a consultant on the difficult task of selecting antibiotic therapy for bacteremia and issues of representation and design for the system are discussed.

OPS: a domain-independent production system language

TL;DR: Some of the issues that bear on the design of production system languages are explored and the adequacy of OPS is tried to show for its intended purpose.

Production system conflict resolution strategies1

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore the role of conflict resolution in providing support for production systems designed to function and grow in environments that make large numbers of different, sometimes competing, and sometimes unexpected demands.
