R1: a rule-based configurer of computer systems

John McDermott

- Vol. 19, Iss: 1, pp 39-88
TLDR
R1 is a program that configures VAX-11/780 computer systems and uses Match as its principal problem solving method; it has sufficient knowledge of the configuration domain and of the peculiarities of the various configuration constraints that at each step in the configuration process, it simply recognizes what to do.

Verifikation regelbasierter Konfigurationssysteme

Carsten Sinz
TL;DR: This work addresses the parallelization and distributed execution of an algorithm from the area of symbolic computation: propositional satisfiability (SAT) checking with dynamic learning, and shows how application of formal methods can support this task by enabling automatic checks of standardized consistency properties.
Book ChapterDOI

Semantic Query Optimization through Abduction and Constraint Handling

TL;DR: A unified framework from which (variants of) SQO, ALP and CLP can be obtained as special instances is presented, which relies on a proof procedure which combines backward reasoning with logic programming clauses and forward reasoning with integrity constraints.
Journal ArticleDOI

Proof planning for maintainable configuration systems

TL;DR: This paper considers building intelligent knowledge-based systems with maintainability well to the fore in their requirements for such systems, using the use of the proof planning technique, and the clean of different kinds of knowledge: factual, heuristic, and strategic.
Journal ArticleDOI

Solution Space Development: Conceptual Reflections and Development of the Parameter Space Matrix as Planning Tool for Geometry-based Solution Spaces

TL;DR: The Parameter Space Matrix (ParSM) is developed as a tool for a structured elicitation of requirements, solution space restrictions and the resulting model parameters for the CAD-model by the authors.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Parallelism in database production systems

TL;DR: A mechanism that guarantees the semantic consistency of parallel execution and proves its correctness is presented, based on a novel locking mechanism that provides more parallelism than conventional two-phase locking.

Rete: a fast algorithm for the many pattern/many object pattern match problem

TL;DR: The Rete Match Algorithm is an efficient method for comparing a large collection of patterns to a largeCollection of objects that finds all the objects that match each pattern.

Production rules as a representation for a knowledge-based consultation program

TL;DR: The MYCIN system has begun to exhibit a high level of performance as a consultant on the difficult task of selecting antibiotic therapy for bacteremia and issues of representation and design for the system are discussed.
Proceedings Article

OPS: a domain-independent production system language

TL;DR: Some of the issues that bear on the design of production system languages are explored and the adequacy of OPS is tried to show for its intended purpose.
Book ChapterDOI

Production system conflict resolution strategies1

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore the role of conflict resolution in providing support for production systems designed to function and grow in environments that make large numbers of different, sometimes competing, and sometimes unexpected demands.
