Abstract
An efficient method is given to reconstruct the current profile parameters, the plasma shape, and a current profile consistent with the magnetohydrodynamic equilibrium constraint from external magnetic measurements, based on a Picard iteration approach which approximately conserves the measurements. Computational efforts are reduced by parametrizing the current profile linearly in terms of a number of physical parameters. Results of detailed comparative calculations and a sensitivity study are described. Illustrative calculations to reconstruct the current profiles and plasma shapes in ohmically and auxiliarily heated Doublet III plasmas are given which show many interesting features of the current profiles.

Phase Contrast Imaging on the Alcator C-Mod tokamak

A. Mazurenko
TL;DR: In this article, phase contrast imaging (PCI) was used to measure line-integrated (along 12 vertical chords) plasma density perturbations with good temporal (2-500 kHz) and wavenumber (0.5-12 /cm) resolution.

Progress towards the validation of models of the behavior of neutral helium in gas puff imaging experiments

TL;DR: Stotler et al. as mentioned in this paper examined the temporal behavior of the helium atoms used as the emitting species for GPI and showed that for the time scales of interest (≳1μs), the atomic physics model underlying the conventional interpretation of GPI is valid.

L-mode SOL width scaling in the MAST spherical tokamak

TL;DR: In this paper, a new data set of outboard midplane scrape-off layer (SOL) heat flux widths, Δh, has been constructed for L-mode plasmas in the MAST spherical tokamak (ST) and the scaling with key plasma parameters such as density, toroidal magnetic field, parallel connection length in the SOL and surface heat flux at the separatrix is investigated.

Relation of vertical stability and aspect ratio in tokamaks

TL;DR: In this article, the upper limit to plasma elongation kappa, caused by vertical stability, varies with the ratio A=R/a of the tokamak, and EFITD was used to generate the equilibrium.

Measurement of deuterium density profiles in the H-mode steep gradient region using charge exchange recombination spectroscopy on DIII-D.

TL;DR: In a H-mode DIII-D discharge, these new measurement capabilities are used to provide the deuterium density profile, demonstrate the importance of profile alignment between Thomson scattering and CER diagnostics, and aid in determining the electron temperature at the separatrix.

Separation of β̄p and ℓi in tokamaks of non-circular cross-section

TL;DR: In this paper, integral relations for the average poloidal beta p and the plasma internal inductance li are derived from the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equilibrium equation for an axisymmetric torus.

Computation of ideal MHD equilibria

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of two-and three-dimensional ideal MHD equilibrium codes, with particular emphasis on axisymmetric toroidal calculations, is presented. But this paper is restricted to the case of Tokyoamak geometry.
