Abstract
An efficient method is given to reconstruct the current profile parameters, the plasma shape, and a current profile consistent with the magnetohydrodynamic equilibrium constraint from external magnetic measurements, based on a Picard iteration approach which approximately conserves the measurements. Computational efforts are reduced by parametrizing the current profile linearly in terms of a number of physical parameters. Results of detailed comparative calculations and a sensitivity study are described. Illustrative calculations to reconstruct the current profiles and plasma shapes in ohmically and auxiliarily heated Doublet III plasmas are given which show many interesting features of the current profiles.

The effect of divertor magnetic balance on H-mode performance in DIII-D

TL;DR: In this paper, the magnetic balance of highly triangular (δ ≈ 0.8), unpumped H-mode plasmas was varied and changes in divertor heat loading and particle flux were observed when the magnetic configuration was varied from a balanced double-null divertor to a slightly unbalanced DN divertor.

Observation of SOL current correlated with MHD activity in NBI heated DIII-D tokamak discharges

TL;DR: In this paper, the potential roles played by the scrape-off-layer current (SOLC) in MHD activity of tokamak plasmas, including effects on stability, were investigated.

Observation of electric currents in diverted tokamak scrape-off layers

TL;DR: In this article, a tile current array, consisting of resistors to sense current flowing from six divertor tiles into the metallic vacuum vessel, was installed in DIII-D. Data show that typically 1-2 kA circulates poloidally around the single-null divertor scrapeoff layer (SOL), a current of similar magnitude flows vertically in the outer SOL of double null plasmas and a much smaller current in the inner SOL.

Equilibrium and stability studies for an iron core tokamak with a poloidal divertor

TL;DR: In this article, a study of plasma equilibrium and stability in a tokamak with an unsaturated iron core is presented, where a spool model is developed for the iron core and a simplified force balance code and a Grad-Shafranov solver are used to study the plasma equilibrium.

SOLPS modeling of the effect on plasma detachment of closing the lower divertor in DIII-D

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of tightly closing the lower divertor in DIII-D on the achievement of cold dissipative/detached divertor conditions was investigated, showing that the tightly closed divertor greatly improves trapping of recycling neutrals, thereby increasing radiative and charge exchange losses in the divertor and reducing the electron temperature.

Separation of β̄p and ℓi in tokamaks of non-circular cross-section

TL;DR: In this paper, integral relations for the average poloidal beta p and the plasma internal inductance li are derived from the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equilibrium equation for an axisymmetric torus.

Computation of ideal MHD equilibria

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of two-and three-dimensional ideal MHD equilibrium codes, with particular emphasis on axisymmetric toroidal calculations, is presented. But this paper is restricted to the case of Tokyoamak geometry.
