Micro/nanotribological studies of polysilicon and SiC films for MEMS applications

TL;DR: In this paper, surface roughness, microscale friction and microscale scratch/wear resistance of 3CSiC (cubic SiC) films, as well as undoped single-crystal Si(100) and doped and undoped polysilicon films for comparison were measured.

Future perspectives on sustainable tribology

TL;DR: In this article, the authors highlight the future perspectives of sustainable tribology by examining the economic, envi- ronmental and social impact of three tribological case studies and highlight the importance of sustainability in our epoch showing that increased sustainability performance can be achieved through tri-bology to a significant extent in many cases.

Surface oxidation of an AlPdMn quasicrystal, characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to determine the extent of oxidation of each of the three metals which comprise a quasicrystalline alloy.

Edge loading in metal-on-metal hips: low clearance is a new risk factor.

TL;DR: A method to calculate the distance between the joint reaction force vector and the cup rim – the contact patch centre to rim (CPCR) distance is developed, which shows that low clearance hips, which have a more conformal contact, have a larger diameter contact patch and thus are more at risk of edge loading for similarly positioned hips.

The tribological behaviour of engineering plastics during sliding friction investigated with small-scale specimens

TL;DR: In this paper, some basic types of engineering plastics (PA, oil-filled PA PTFE-filled PETP, POM-H) are experimentally investigated by means of small-scale reciprocating tribotesting.
