Sub-surface mechanical damage distributions during grinding of fused silica
Tayyab I. Suratwala,L. Wong,P. E. Miller,Michael D. Feit,Joseph A. Menapace,R. Steele,Pete J. Davis,Dan Walmer +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors measured surface cracking (i.e., sub-surface damage or SSD) formed during standard grinding processes on fused silica glass using a surface taper polishing technique.

Recent progress in large scale manufacturing of multilayer/superlattice hard coatings
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described the properties of superlattice structured hard coatings dedicated to high temperature performance: TiAlN/CrN (period 3.03 nm), to tribological applications, and combined wear and corrosion resistance CrN/NbN ( period 3.62 nm), and showed superior tribological properties with a coefficient of friction mu = 0.4 and low sliding wear.

Abrasive wear behaviour of WC–CoCr and Cr3C2–20(NiCr) deposited by HVOF and detonation spray processes
J.K.N. Murthy,B. Venkataraman +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the wear resistance of tungsten carbide and chromium carbide-based coatings with a three-body solid particle rubber wheel test rig using silica grits as the abrasive medium.

Advances in material and friction data for modelling of metal machining
Shreyes N. Melkote,Wit Grzesik,José Outeiro,Joël Rech,Volker Schulze,Helmi Attia,Pedro-J. Arrazola,Rachid M'Saoubi,Christopher Saldana +8 more
TL;DR: Phenomenological and physically-based constitutive models commonly used in machining simulations are presented and discussed and thermo-physical properties for thermal modelling of the machining process, and microstructure data for the chip and workpiece together with relevant experimental methods are discussed.

Wear mechanisms in abrasion and erosion of WC/Co and related hardmetals
Mark Gee,A.J. Gant,Bryan Roebuck +2 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe observations of wear mechanisms made through examination of the surfaces of WC hardmetals samples tested in a number of different laboratory abrasion and erosion wear tests.
