Jon O. Lundberg,Mark T. Gladwin,Amrita Ahluwalia,Nigel Benjamin,Nathan S. Bryan,Anthony R. Butler,Pedro Cabrales,Angela Fago,Martin Feelisch,Peter C. Ford,Bruce A. Freeman,Michael P. Frenneaux,Joel M. Friedman,Malte Kelm,Christopher G. Kevil,Daniel B. Kim-Shapiro,Andrey V. Kozlov,Jack R. Lancaster,David J. Lefer,Kenneth E.L. McColl,Kenneth R. McCurry,Rakesh P. Patel,Joel Petersson,Tienush Rassaf,Valentin Reutov,George B. Richter-Addo,Alan N. Schechter,Sruti Shiva,Koichiro Tsuchiya,Ernst E. van Faassen,Andrew J. Webb,Brian S. Zuckerbraun,Jay L. Zweier,Eddie Weitzberg +33 more
TL;DR: The latest advances in the understanding of the biochemistry, physiology and therapeutics of nitrate, nitrite and NO were discussed during a recent 2-day meeting at the Nobel Forum, Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress signalling - from basic mechanisms to clinical applications
Aitor Almanza,Antonio Carlesso,Chetan Chintha,Stuart Creedican,Dimitrios Doultsinos,Brian Leuzzi,Andreia Luís,Nicole McCarthy,Luigi Montibeller,Sanket More,Alexandra Papaioannou,Franziska Püschel,Maria Livia Sassano,Josip Skoko,Patrizia Agostinis,Jackie de Belleroche,Leif A. Eriksson,Simone Fulda,Adrienne M. Gorman,Sandra Healy,Andrey V. Kozlov,Cristina Muñoz-Pinedo,Markus Rehm,Eric Chevet,Afshin Samali +24 more
TL;DR: This review provides a synthesis of intracellular ER signalling revolving around proteostasis and the UPR, its impact on other organelles and cellular behaviour, its multifaceted and dynamic response to stress and its role in physiology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Biological Activities of Reactive Oxygen and Nitrogen Species: Oxidative Stress versus Signal Transduction
TL;DR: Whether RONS have a signal transducing or damaging effect is primarily defined by their quality, being primary or secondary RONS, and only secondly by their quantity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nitrite as regulator of hypoxic signaling in mammalian physiology
Ernst E. van Faassen,Soheyl Bahrami,Martin Feelisch,Neil Hogg,Malte Kelm,Daniel B. Kim-Shapiro,Andrey V. Kozlov,Haitao Li,Jon O. Lundberg,Ron Mason,Hans Nohl,Tienush Rassaf,Alexandre Samouilov,Anny Slama-Schwok,Sruti Shiva,Anatoly F. Vanin,Eddie Weitzberg,Jay L. Zweier,Mark T. Gladwin +18 more
TL;DR: The mechanisms and properties of these various pathways and the role played by the local concentration of free oxygen in the affected tissue are discussed and additional direct signaling events not involving free nitric oxide are proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeted Deletion of AIF Decreases Mitochondrial Oxidative Phosphorylation and Protects from Obesity and Diabetes
J. Andrew Pospisilik,Claude Knauf,Nicholas Joza,Paule Bénit,Michael Orthofer,Patrice D. Cani,Patrice D. Cani,Ingo Ebersberger,Tomoki Nakashima,Renu Sarao,G. Greg Neely,Harald Esterbauer,Andrey V. Kozlov,C. Ronald Kahn,Guido Kroemer,Guido Kroemer,Guido Kroemer,Pierre Rustin,Rémy Burcelin,Josef M. Penninger +19 more
TL;DR: It is shown that muscle- and liver-specific AIF ablation in mice initiates a pattern of OxPhos deficiency closely mimicking that of human insulin resistance, and contrary to current expectations, results in increased glucose tolerance, reduced fat mass, and increased insulin sensitivity.
