Dietary polyphenol intake in Europe: the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study

TL;DR: The large number of dietary individual polyphenols consumed and the high variability of their intakes between European populations, particularly between MED and non-MED countries are described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nutritional quality of food as represented by the FSAm-NPS nutrient profiling system underlying the Nutri-Score label and cancer risk in Europe: Results from the EPIC prospective cohort study

Mélanie Deschasaux, +59 more
- 18 Sep 2018 -
TL;DR: Higher FSAm-NPS DI scores were specifically associated with higher risks of cancers of the colon-rectum, upper aerodigestive tract and stomach, lung for men, and liver and postmenopausal breast for women for women.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Body Shape Index (ABSI) achieves better mortality risk stratification than alternative indices of abdominal obesity : results from a large European cohort

Sofia Christakoudi, +54 more
- 03 Sep 2020 -
TL;DR: Only a waist index independent of BMI by design, such as ABSI, complements BMI and enables efficient risk stratification, which could facilitate personalisation of screening, treatment and monitoring.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prediagnostic selenium status and hepatobiliary cancer risk in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition cohort

TL;DR: Findings from a large prospective cohort provide evidence that suboptimal selenium status in Europeans may be associated with an appreciably increased risk of HCC development.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alcohol intake in relation to non-fatal and fatal coronary heart disease and stroke: EPIC-CVD case-cohort study

Cristian Ricci, +58 more
- 29 May 2018 -
TL;DR: Alcohol intake was inversely associated with non-fatal CHD risk but positively associated with the risk of different stroke subtypes, which highlights the opposing associations of alcohol intake with different CVD types and strengthens the evidence for policies to reduce alcohol consumption.
