Journal ArticleDOI
Prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF2alpha) and the isoprostane, 8, 12-iso-isoprostane F2alpha-III, induce cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. Differential activation of downstream signaling pathways.
TL;DR: Both PGF2α and 8,12-iso-iPF2α-III induce myocyte hypertrophy via discrete signaling pathways through JNK1 and c-Jun pathways and the hypertrophic effects of these two agonists on cardiomyocytes are additive.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Influence of Pravastatin and Atorvastatin on Markers of Oxidative Stress in Hypercholesterolemic Humans
Bonnie Ky,Anne Burke,Sotirios Tsimikas,Megan L. Wolfe,Mahlet G. Tadesse,Philippe Szapary,Joseph L. Witztum,Garret A. FitzGerald,Daniel J. Rader +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that statin therapy results in variable effects on oxidative stress markers in hypercholesterolemic subjects, and future outcome studies should collectively assess various oxidative markers to define clinical utility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Long-lived enzymatic metabolites of thromboxane B2 in the human circulation.
TL;DR: Combined analysis of short- and long-lived enzymatic metabolites of thromboxane B2 promises to bypass the problem of ex vivo platelet activation and enhance the likelihood of relating a discreet clinical event to an alteration in the biosynthesis of thROMboxane A2 in the human circulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Enhanced lipid peroxidation in patients positive for antiphospholipid antibodies.
Luigi Iuliano,Domenico Praticò,Domenico Praticò,Domenico Ferro,Domenico Ferro,V. Pittoni,V. Pittoni,G. Valesini,G. Valesini,John A. Lawson,John A. Lawson,Garret A. FitzGerald,Garret A. FitzGerald,Francesco Violi,Francesco Violi +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors studied the relationship between antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) and isoprostanes, indices of lipid peroxidation in vivo.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Isoprostanes: A Perspective
Joshua Rokach,Subhash P. Khanapure,Seongwoo Hwang,Mustafa Adiyaman,John A. Lawson,Garret A. FitzGerald +5 more
TL;DR: The isoprostanes are a new class of natural products produced in vivo by a non-enzymatic free-radical-induced peroxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acid that can provide an exclusive and selective index for the oxidant component of several inflammatory and degenerative diseases.
