US Cosmic Visions: New Ideas in Dark Matter 2017: Community Report

Yonit Hochberg, +241 more
TL;DR: The white paper summarizes the workshop "U.S. Cosmic Visions: New Ideas in Dark Matter" held at University of Maryland on March 23-25, 2017.
Proceedings ArticleDOI

Metallic magnetic calorimeters

TL;DR: Metallic magnetic calorimeters (MMCs) as discussed by the authors are calorimetric particle detectors, typically operated at temperatures below 100 mK, that make use of a paramagnetic temperature sensor to transform the temperature rise upon the absorption of a particle in the detector into a measurable magnetic flux change in a dc‐SQUID.
Journal ArticleDOI

Magnetic Levitation and Noncoalescence of Liquid Helium.

TL;DR: It is found that, when two or more drops are levitated in the same magnetic trap, the drops often remain in a state of apparent contact without coalescing, which appears to be caused by the slow evaporation of liquid from the drops.
Journal ArticleDOI

Rayleigh scattering in rare-gas liquids

TL;DR: In this paper, the Rayleigh scattering length for rare-gas liquids in the ultraviolet for the frequencies at which they luminesce has been calculated based on the measured dielectric constants in the UV in the gas phase, in some cases extrapolated to the wavelength of luminescence.
