TL;DR: Data collected demonstrate that there is a strong association between GBA mutations and Parkinson's disease, and those with a GBA mutation presented earlier with the disease, were more likely to have affected relatives, and were morelikely to have atypical clinical manifestations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of Lrrk2 R1628P as a Risk Factor for Parkinson's Disease
Owen A. Ross,Yih-Ru Wu,Mei-Ching Lee,Manabu Funayama,Meng-Ling Chen,Alexandra I. Soto,Ignacio F. Mata,Guey Jen Lee-Chen,Chiung Mei Chen,Michelle Tang,Yi Zhao,Nobutaka Hattori,Matthew J. Farrer,Eng-King Tan,Eng-King Tan,Ruey-Meei Wu +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show evidence for leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) c.4883G>C (R1628P) as a risk factor in ethnic Chinese populations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glucocerebrosidase gene mutation is a risk factor for early onset of Parkinson disease among Taiwanese.
Yih Ru Wu,Chiung Mei Chen,Chih Ying Chao,Long Sun Ro,Rong Kuo Lyu,Kuo-Hsuan Chang,Guey Jen Lee-Chen +6 more
TL;DR: Clinically, all 16 patients carrying a GBA mutation presented with a typical parkinsonian phenotype and experienced a good or excellent response to levodopa and Mutations of the GBA gene may be associated with the development of EOPD in Taiwan.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exendin-4 protected against cognitive dysfunction in hyperglycemic mice receiving an intrahippocampal lipopolysaccharide injection.
Hei Jen Huang,Yen Hsu Chen,Keng-Chen Liang,Yu Syuan Jheng,Jhih Jhen Jhao,Ming Tsan Su,Guey Jen Lee-Chen,Hsiu Mei Hsieh-Li +7 more
TL;DR: These findings reveal that both hyperglycemia and intrahippocampal LPS injection induced cognitive dysfunction via activation of NF-κB-related inflammatory responses, and EX-4 might be considered as a potential adjuvant entity to protect against neurodegenerative diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
The SCA17 phenotype can include features of MSA-C, PSP and cognitive impairment.
TL;DR: This case expands the current phenotype associated with SCA17, which consisted of progressive ataxia, autonomic dysfunction, parkinsonism, supranuclear palsy and cognitive impairment, and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cases resembling multiple system atrophy.
