Cooperation Among Animals: An Evolutionary Perspective

TL;DR: The evolution of cooperation in mammals I: non-primates and non-human primates and theoretical perspectives on the evolution of Cooperation in fishes, birds and insects are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Can altruism evolve in purely viscous populations

TL;DR: A computer simulation model of ‘pure’ population viscosity is analysed, in which offspring are always deposited close to parents and no global mixing stage exists, which generates a high coefficient of relatedness among interacting individuals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inclusive fitness theory and eusociality

Patrick Abbot, +137 more
- 24 Mar 2011 -
TL;DR: It is argued that inclusive fitness theory has been of little value in explained the natural world, and that it has led to negligible progress in explaining the evolution of eusociality, but these arguments are based upon a misunderstanding of evolutionary theory and a misrepresentation of the empirical literature.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sexual Selection and Imitation: Females Copy the Mate Choice of Others

TL;DR: Female copying behavior during mate choice in the Trinidadian guppy is examined, which shows that female mate copying behavior increases the variance in male reproductive success and thus the potential for sexual selection.
