Genomic analysis of diversity, population structure, virulence, and antimicrobial resistance in Klebsiella pneumoniae, an urgent threat to public health
Kathryn E. Holt,Heiman F. L. Wertheim,Ruth N. Zadoks,Stephen Baker,Chris A. Whitehouse,David A. B. Dance,Adam Jenney,Thomas R. Connor,Li Yang Hsu,Juliëtte A. Severin,Sylvain Brisse,Hanwei Cao,Jonathan J. Wilksch,Claire L. Gorrie,Mark B. Schultz,David J. Edwards,Kinh Van Nguyen,Trung Vu Nguyen,Trinh Tuyet Dao,Martijn Mensink,Vien Le Minh,Nguyen Thi Khanh Nhu,Constance Schultsz,Kuntaman Kuntaman,Paul N. Newton,Paul N. Newton,Catrin E. Moore,Catrin E. Moore,Richard A. Strugnell,Nicholas R. Thomson,Nicholas R. Thomson +30 more
TL;DR: The DNA sequence of K. pneumoniae isolates from around the world is determined and it is shown that there is a wide spectrum of diversity, including variation within shared sequences and gain and loss of whole genes, and there is an unrecognized association between the possession of specific gene profiles associated with virulence and antibiotic resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rapid whole-genome sequencing for investigation of a neonatal MRSA outbreak.
Claudio U. Köser,Claudio U. Köser,Matthew T. G. Holden,Matthew J. Ellington,Edward J. P. Cartwright,Edward J. P. Cartwright,Nicholas M. Brown,Nicholas M. Brown,Amanda Ogilvy-Stuart,Li Yang Hsu,Claire Chewapreecha,Nicholas J. Croucher,Simon R. Harris,Mandy Sanders,Mark C. Enright,Gordon Dougan,Stephen D. Bentley,Julian Parkhill,Louise Fraser,Jason Betley,Ole Schulz-Trieglaff,Geoffrey Paul Smith,Sharon J. Peacock +22 more
TL;DR: Whole-genome sequencing can provide clinically relevant data within a time frame that can influence patient care and the need for automated data interpretation and the provision of clinically meaningful reports represent hurdles to clinical implementation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lessons learnt from easing COVID-19 restrictions: an analysis of countries and regions in Asia Pacific and Europe.
Emeline Han,Melisa Mei Jin Tan,Eva Turk,Eva Turk,Devi Sridhar,Gabriel M. Leung,Kenji Shibuya,Nima Asgari,Juhwan Oh,Alberto L. García-Basteiro,Johanna Hanefeld,Johanna Hanefeld,Alex R. TL;DR: This Health Policy paper uses an adapted framework to examine the approaches taken by nine high-income countries and regions that have started to ease COVID-19 restrictions: five in the Asia Pacific region (ie, Hong Kong [Special Administrative Region], Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, and South Korea) and four in Europe (IE, Germany, Norway, Spain, and the UK).
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: The genetic changes associated with adaptation to the hospital environment and with increasing drug resistance over time are document, and how MRSA evolution likely has been influenced by country-specific drug use regimens are documented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Potential Rapid Diagnostics, Vaccine and Therapeutics for 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV): A Systematic Review.
Junxiong Pang,Min Xian Wang,Ian Yi Han Ang,Sharon Hui Xuan Tan,Ruth Frances Lewis,Jacinta I-Pei Chen,Ramona Alikiiteaga Gutiérrez,Sylvia Xiao Wei Gwee,Pearleen Ee Yong Chua,Qian Yang,Xian Yi Ng,Rowena K.S. Yap,Hao Yi Tan,Yik Ying Teo,Chorh Chuan Tan,Alex R. Cook,Jason Yap,Li Yang Hsu +17 more
TL;DR: A systematic search was carried out in three major electronic databases to identify published studies in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, and there are currently no effective specific antivirals or drug combinations supported by high-level evidence.
