Journal ArticleDOI

Lobar Emphysema Distribution Is Associated With 5-Year Radiological Disease Progression

Adel Boueiz, +157 more
- 01 Jan 2018 -
TL;DR: Subgroups of smokers defined by upper‐lobe or lower-lobe emphysema predominance exhibit different functional and radiological disease progression rates, and the upper‐ lobe predominant subtype shows evidence of association with known COPD genetic risk variants.
Journal ArticleDOI

The St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire Definition of Chronic Bronchitis May Be a Better Predictor of COPD Exacerbations Compared With the Classic Definition.

Victor Kim, +151 more
- 01 Oct 2019 -
TL;DR: The St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) CB definition was at least a similar if not better predictor of future exacerbations than classic CB, and SGRQ CB was an independent predictor of severe exacerbation frequency whereas classic CB was not.
Journal ArticleDOI

Airway wall thickness is increased in COPD patients with bronchodilator responsiveness

TL;DR: This study provides greater evidence of changes in lung structure that correlate with physiologic manifestations of airflow obstruction in COPD and independently associated with CT evidence of airway pathology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Disease Progression Modeling in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Alexandra L. Young, +160 more
TL;DR: Two distinct patterns of disease progression in COPD are demonstrated using a novel machine-learning tool called SuStaIn, likely representing different endotypes, suggesting a new biomarker of 'early COPD'.
