Journal ArticleDOI

A case of adult-onset dementia with argyrophilic grains.

TL;DR: Although the case was clinically indistinguishable from Alzheimer's disease, plaque and tangle pathological findings were absent and cortical changes of the type described by Braak and Braak are confirmed and additional data on subcortical changes in this case is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modulation of human microglia and THP-1 cell toxicity by cytokines endogenous to the nervous system

TL;DR: Toxicity induced by the various stimulatory combinations tested suggested that antagonists of cytokine receptors, as well as inhibitors of their intracellular pathways may be effective anti-inflammatory agents.
Journal ArticleDOI

Autotoxicity and Alzheimer disease.

TL;DR: The fact that such a reaction can be mounted by brain, an organ frequently described as being immunologically privileged, suggests that a reevaluation is required of the dimensions of the innate immune system, including how it operates at the tissue level.
Journal ArticleDOI

Occurrence of HLA-DR reactive microglia in Alzheimer's disease.

TL;DR: Sensitive immunohistochemical procedures were used to detect reactive microglia (macrophages) positive for HLA-DR in postmortem tissue in cases of Alzheimer’s disease, finding them concentrated in areas of senile plaque formation.
