Journal ArticleDOI
A single-cell-based model of tumor growth in vitro: monolayers and spheroids.
TL;DR: A phenomenological growth law in early expansion phases in which specific biological small-scale processes are subsumed in a small number of effective parameters is proposed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adverse outcome pathways: opportunities, limitations and open questions.

TL;DR: The history of the AOP concept and its most prominent strengths are discussed, including the advantages of a formalized approach, the systematic collection of weight of evidence, the linkage of mechanisms to apical end points, the examination of the plausibility of epidemiological data, the identification of critical knowledge gaps and the design of mechanistic test methods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Individual-based approaches to birth and death in avascu1ar tumors
Dirk Drasdo,Stefan Höhme +1 more
TL;DR: A single-cell based approach that allows the linking of model parameters to experimental accessible biomechanical and kinetic parameters and provides a potential, at least partly quantitative, description of growing avascu1ar tumors in stages which are not primarily determined by nutrient or oxygen supply is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mathematical modelling of liver regeneration after intoxication with CCl4
Stefan Höhme,Jan G. Hengstler,Marc Brulport,Marc Schäfer,Alexander Bauer,Rolf Gebhardt,Dirk Drasdo,Dirk Drasdo,Dirk Drasdo +8 more
TL;DR: A mathematical spatial-temporal model of the liver lobule regenerating after CCl(4) intoxication suggests that the ability of hepatocytes to realign after cell division by a process of coordinated cell orientation in combination with cell polarity may be at least as critical as hepatocyte proliferation itself.
