TL;DR: The genomes assembled from blood samples from the patient and a semen sample from the survivor were consistent with direct transmission of Ebola virus disease and provided evidence of sexual transmission of EBOV and evidence of the persistence of infective E BOV in semen for 179 days or more after the onset of EVD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Virus genomes reveal factors that spread and sustained the Ebola epidemic

TL;DR: It is revealed that this large epidemic was a heterogeneous and spatially dissociated collection of transmission clusters of varying size, duration and connectivity, which will help to inform interventions in future epidemics.

TL;DR: CDC now recommends that contact with semen from male Ebola survivors be avoided until more information regarding the duration and infectiousness of viral shedding in body fluids is known, and if male survivors have sex, a condom should be used correctly and consistently every time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolution and Spread of Ebola Virus in Liberia, 2014–2015
Jason T. Ladner,Michael R. Wiley,Suzanne Mate,Gytis Dudas,Karla Prieto,Sean Lovett,Elyse R. Nagle,Brett Beitzel,Merle L. Gilbert,Lawrence Fakoli,Joseph W. Diclaro,Randal J. Schoepp,Joseph N. Kugelman,Gustavo Palacios +24 more
TL;DR: Overall, little evidence was found for incremental adaptation of EBOV to the human host in the Liberian EVD outbreak and throughout the Western African outbreak.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monitoring of Ebola Virus Makona Evolution through Establishment of Advanced Genomic Capability in Liberia.
Jeffrey R. Kugelman,Michael R. Wiley,Suzanne Mate,Jason T. Ladner,Brett Beitzel,Lawrence Fakoli,Fahn Taweh,Karla Prieto,Joseph W. Diclaro,Timothy D. Minogue,Randal J. Schoepp,Kurt E. TL;DR: The effects of EBOV evolution on diagnostic assays and therapeutic drugs appear to be low and the potential for drug discovery and development is low.
