Journal ArticleDOI
Thermoregulatory and metabolic defects in Huntington's disease transgenic mice implicate PGC-1α in Huntington's disease neurodegeneration
Patrick Weydt,Victor V. Pineda,Anne E. Torrence,Randell T. Libby,Terrence F. Satterfield,Eduardo R. Lazarowski,Merle L. Gilbert,Gregory J. Morton,Theodor K. Bammler,Andrew D. Strand,Libin Cui,Richard P. Beyer,Courtney N. Easley,Annette C. Smith,Dimitri Krainc,Serge Luquet,Ian R. Sweet,Michael W. Schwartz,Albert R. La Spada +18 more
TL;DR: Reduced expression of PGC-1alpha target genes in HD patient and mouse striatum is document, which may link transcription dysregulation and mitochondrial dysfunction in HD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Virus genomes reveal factors that spread and sustained the Ebola epidemic
Gytis Dudas,Gytis Dudas,Luiz Max Carvalho,Trevor Bedford,Andrew J. Tatem,Guy Baele,Nuno R. Faria,Daniel J. Park,Jason T. Suchard,Philippe Lemey,Andrew Rambaut +110 more
TL;DR: It is revealed that this large epidemic was a heterogeneous and spatially dissociated collection of transmission clusters of varying size, duration and connectivity, which will help to inform interventions in future epidemics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evolution and Spread of Ebola Virus in Liberia, 2014–2015
Jason T. Ladner,Michael R. Wiley,Suzanne Mate,Gytis Dudas,Karla Prieto,Sean Lovett,Elyse R. Nagle,Brett Beitzel,Merle L. Gilbert,Lawrence Fakoli,Joseph W. Diclaro,Randal J. Schoepp,Joseph N. Kugelman,Gustavo Palacios +24 more
TL;DR: Overall, little evidence was found for incremental adaptation of EBOV to the human host in the Liberian EVD outbreak and throughout the Western African outbreak.
Journal ArticleDOI
Glucose-stimulated increment in oxygen consumption rate as a standardized test of human islet quality.
Ian R. Sweet,Merle L. Gilbert,Stephen Scott,Ivan Todorov,Richard A. Jensen,Indu Nair,Ismail H. Al-Abdullah,Jeffrey Rawson,Fouad Kandeel,Kevin Ferreri +9 more
TL;DR: The ΔOCRglc, but not the absolute level of OCR, was predictive of reversal of hyperglycemia in diabetic mice and lay the foundation for testing ΔOCCglc as a measurement of islet quality for human islet transplantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reduced evolutionary rate in reemerged Ebola virus transmission chains
David J. Blackley,Michael R. Wiley,Jason T. Ladner,Mosoka Fallah,Terrence Lo,Merle L. Gilbert,Christopher J. Gregory,Jonathan D'ambrozio,Stewart Coulter,Suzanne Mate,Zephaniah Balogun,Jeffrey R. Monroe,Andrew Rambaut,Andrew Rambaut,Mariano Sanchez-Lockhart,A. Scott Laney,Tolbert Nyenswah,Athalia Christie,Gustavo Palacios +39 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that, similar to the March 2015 flare-up associated with sexual transmission, this new flares-up was a reemergence of a Liberian transmission chain originating from a persistently infected source rather than a reintroduction from a reservoir or a neighboring country with active transmission.
