Progress in electrical energy storage system: A critical review

During the past several years, there have been increasing research activities in the field of stability analysis and switching stabilization for switched systems. This paper aims to briefly survey recent results in this field. First, the stability analysis for switched systems is reviewed. We focus on the stability analysis for switched linear systems under arbitrary switching, and we highlight necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotic stability. After a brief review of the stability analysis under restricted switching and the multiple Lyapunov function theory, the switching stabilization problem is studied, and a variety of switching stabilization methods found in the literature are outlined. Then the switching stabilizability problem is investigated, that is under what condition it is possible to stabilize a switched system by properly designing switching control laws. Note that the switching stabilizability problem has been one of the most elusive problems in the switched systems literature. A necessary and sufficient condition for asymptotic stabilizability of switched linear systems is described here.

Stability and Stabilizability of Switched Linear Systems: A Survey of Recent Results

This paper presents control and coordination algorithms for groups of vehicles. The focus is on autonomous vehicle networks performing distributed sensing tasks where each vehicle plays the role of a mobile tunable sensor. The paper proposes gradient descent algorithms for a class of utility functions which encode optimal coverage and sensing policies. The resulting closed-loop behavior is adaptive, distributed, asynchronous, and verifiably correct.

Event-Triggered Control Through the Eyes of a Hybrid Small-Gain Theorem

In this paper we study the stability and L 2 — gain properties of periodic event-triggered control (PETC) systems including time-varying delays. We introduce a general framework that captures these PETC systems and encompasses a class of hybrid systems that exhibit linear flow, aperiodic time-triggered jumps (possibly with different deadlines) and arbitrary nonlinear time-varying jump maps. New notions on the stability and contractivity (L 2 -gain strictly smaller than 1) from the beginning of the flow and from the end of the flow are introduced and formal relationships are deduced between these notions, revealing that some are stronger than others. Inspired by ideas from lifting, it is shown that the internal stability and contractivity in L 2 -sense of a continuous-time hybrid system in the framework is equivalent to the stability and contractivity in l 2 -sense of an appropriate time-varying discrete-time nonlinear system. These results recover existing works in the literature as special cases and indicate that analysing different discrete-time nonlinear systems (of the same level of complexity) than in existing works yield stronger conclusions on the L 2 -gain. At the end of the paper we indicate several extensions of the framework, which even include the possibility of the interjump times depending on the state, such that, for instance, self-triggered control systems can also be included allowing their stability and contractivity analysis. A numerical example is presented showing how stability and contractivity analyses are carried out for PETC systems with delays.

L 2 -gain analysis of periodic event-triggered systems with varying delays using lifting techniques

In the design of technology intensive products like copiers, wafer steppers and televisions, one searches for a product that satisfies the product requirements as well as the business drivers. The main need in an early design phase is to bring structure in the typical chaos of uncertainty and the huge amount of realization options present. Potential realization choices all have advantages and disadvantages, which cause tensions and conflicts. The earlier the (essential) conflicts and tensions are identified, the better it is. Turning them from implicit to explicit helps the system architect in making the trade-off consciously or at least in selecting the most important tensions and conflicts that require further in-depth investigation. In this respect we demonstrate the effectiveness of a technique called "threads of reasoning". The illustrative case study is the design of the paper flow control (sensors, actuators, control architecture, etc.) in a high-volume copier/printer.

Threads of reasoning : a case study

In this paper, a switching control approach is studied with applications to active vibration isolation. The control design is based on the concept of input-to-state stability of the resulting discontinuous feedback system with respect to disturbances. The switching control strategy demonstrates improved disturbance rejection under feedback combined with a small sensitivity to noise in the absence of such feedback. Herein the control effort needed to achieve improved performance is substantially reduced. To access the performance of the closed-loop system, the control scheme is tested on a commercially available isolation system.
