TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated corporate governance and ownership effects on earning quality in Iranian private banks using regression analysis based on panel data and found that institutional ownership plays an important role in improving the earning quality of private banks.
Abstract: Article history: Received April 20, 2012 Received in Revised form June, 12, 2012 Accepted 29 June 2012 Available online July 2 2012 This paper investigates corporate governance and ownership effects on earning quality in Iranian private banks. The study uses the information of 12 private banks from year 2005 to 2010 using regression analysis based on panel data. Among different factors, the effect of big five shareholder are considered to be significant and positive on earning quality. In addition, the effect of one variable regression test reveals that institutional ownership has positive impact on earning quality. However, the impacts of other variables including percentage of ownership concentration, the size of board of directors, reliance on debt, logarithm of sum of assets, return of assets, logarithm of operating cash flow on earning quality are not meaningful. The result of this survey indicates that institutional ownership plays an important role earning quality simply because institutions normally have the access on professionals to control management. © 2012 Growing Science Ltd. TL;DR: In this article, an integrated production-inventory-marketing model for a two-stage supply chain is developed, where the demand rate is considered as the Iso-elastic decreasing function of the selling price.
Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this article is developing an integrated production-inventory-marketing model for a two-stage supply chain. The demand rate is considered as the Iso-elastic decreasing function of the selling price. The main research goal of the article is to obtain the optimal values of the selling price, order quantity and number of shipments for the proposed model under independent and also joint optimization. In addition, the effects of the model’s parameters on the optimal solution are investigated. Design/methodology/approach: Mathematical modeling is used to obtain the joint total profit function of the supply chain. Then, the iterative solution algorithm is presented to solve the model and determine the optimal solution. Findings and Originality/value: It is observed that under joint optimization, the demand rate and the supply chain’s profit are higher than their values under independent optimization, especially for the more price sensitive demand. Therefore, coordination between the buyer and the vendor is advantageous for the supply chain. On the other hand, joint optimization will be less beneficial when there isn’t a significant difference between the buyer’s and the vendor’s holding costs. Originality/value: The contribution of the article is determining the ordering and pricing policy jointly in the supply chain, which contains one vendor and one buyer while the demand rate is the Iso-elastic function of the selling price.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the optimum conditions for removal of lead from aqueous solution in batch method by Nanocomposite Silica Aerogel Activated Carbon (SA-AC), which is prepared using the sol gel method.
Abstract: Using the Taguchi method, this study analyzes the optimum conditions for removal of lead from aqueous solution in batch method by Nanocomposite Silica Aerogel Activated Carbon (SA–AC), which is prepared using the sol gel method. The controllable factors used in this study consisted of the following: (1) pH of the solution(A); (2) adsorption temperature(B); (3) lead initial concentration(C); (4) adsorbent dosage(D); (5) contact time (F).The effects of each factor were studied at four levels on the removal efficiency of lead from aqueous solution.L 16 orthogonal array (OA) has been used for experimental design. Concentrations of lead were assessed by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The statistical analysis revealed that the most important factors contributing to the removal efficiency are pH of the solution and adsorption temperature. The study shows that the Taguchi's method is suitable to optimize the experiments for total lead ions removal. The total optimum adsorptive removal of leadions were obtained with C 0 = 10 mgL 1 , T = 65°C, pH = 6, m = 0.16 g and t = 6 h.

TL;DR: The helmet with a XPS inner layer reduces the stress more than the helmet with two internal layers, it is the most optimal model for mitigating the head injury due to an impacting load.
Abstract: Background: Motorcycle accidents and sport accidents lead yearly to many head injuries like head fractures and concussion. So finding the most proper helmet for reducing the injuries to head can be very helpful for head protection in such cases. Methods: After 3D modeling of the helmet and head and meshing the model, a compressive impacting load of 1.31MPa was exerted on head and the model was analyzed using FEM. The helmet was considered as a two-layered helmet composing of an inner and an outer layer. Skull and CSF were considered as external layers of head. The analysis was repeated for a helmet with an inner layer made of extruded polystyrene (XPS), a helmet with an inner layer of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and finally a helmet with two internal layers of XPS and EPS. Results: The amounts of maximum displacement of the outer layer in the helmet with a XPS inner layer, the helmet with an EPS inner layer and the helmet with two internal layers were 2.82, 3.15 and 2.98mm, respectively and the respective amounts of stress were 32.05, 43.38 and 34.3MPa. The amounts of maximum stress in the inner and outer layer of the helmet with a XPS inner layer were respectively 16.4% and 6.6% less than those in the helmet with two internal layers. Discussion: Since the helmet with a XPS inner layer reduces the stress more than the helmet with two internal layers, it is the most optimal model for mitigating the head injury due to an impacting load. It should be noted that for simplifying the models, the dura was modeled together with the skull and the thicknesses of the XPS and EPS foam layers were considered to be equal.

TL;DR: High expression of miRNA-17-3p and mi RNA- 17-5p has a direct relationship with increased cell proliferation, inhibition of tumor cell apoptosis and tumor angiogenesis, in addition to miRNAs play an important role as biomarkers in helping for detection of the patient by H. pylori infection to become cancerous.
Abstract: The most common chronic bacterial infection is Helicobacter pylori. The connection between chronic H. pylori infection and gastric cancer is recognized. The early detection of gastric cancer improves survival. miRNAs regulate gene expression in eukaryotes by inhibiting mRNA translocation or degradation. The objective of this study was to compare the expression of miRNA-17-3p and miRNA-17-5p genes in gastric cancer patients with Helicobacter pylori infection. Herein, 30 isolates were identified as H. pylori based on urease test, and 30 and 12 cases were isolated from gastric cancer patients and non-Helicobacter pylori cases as control, respectively. A peripheral blood sample was collected from patients. Analysis of total mRNA extracts from peripheral blood samples, for gene expression changes (miRNA-17-3p and miRNA-17-5p) by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), was done. As said by the results, p values showed that expression levels of miRNA-17-3p and miRNA-17-5p were significantly higher in H. pylori-positive GC patients and H. pylori-positive non-GC patients with comparing by healthy controls. So, there was no significant difference between expression levels of miRNA-17-3p and miRNA-17-5p in H. pylori-positive GC patients and H. pylori-positive non-GC patients. Considering our results, the high expression of miRNA-17-3p and miRNA-17-5p has a direct relationship with increased cell proliferation, inhibition of tumor cell apoptosis and tumor angiogenesis, in addition to miRNAs play an important role as biomarkers in helping for detection of the patient by H. pylori infection to become cancerous. Therefore, it can be used to make specific diagnostic kits and to treat patients.
