Abstract: Chronic recurrent dislocation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is rare and has many causes. Although it is possible to start treating it conservatively, these treatments are usually unsuccessful. Over the years, many operations have been done including operating on the muscles, the articular capsule, the articular meniscus, and the condyle. At present, the most widely accepted techniques are those used on the articular eminence. It may be reduced (eminectomy), favouring free movement of the condyles, or an obstacle may be interposed to prevent excessive movement of the condyles. These later techniques include Norman's (glenotemporal osteotomy with interpositional bone grafting). Other techniques include Dauterey's procedure, on which onlay bone grafts or bone substitutes are inserted in a subperiosteal pocket inferior to the articular eminences. We report a prospective study of 60 patients who had a bilaterally modified glenotemporal osteotomy, 40 who had chronic dislocations of the temporomandibular joints and the other 20 who had severe hypermobility of the joints. Bone grafts, iliac or calvarial, were inserted at the osteotomy between the zygomatic arch and the articular eminence, and fixed either by wires, mini-plates or microplates, and screws. Stable results were obtained and retained during long-term follow up of 1-8 years.

Abstract: Soils polluted by waste lubricant oils may affect the hydrosphere compromising the quality of drinking water resources and threatening the aquatic ecosystems. The objective of this study focused to remove waste-lubricant oils from different polluted sites in El-Minia governorate. In this respect some samples were collected from four different industrial sites and identified as sand, loamy sand, clay loam and loam. Then the field conditions were simulates using two experimental models packed with contaminated soil. The remediation processes carried out in both models using surfactant enhanced by air injection then by water washing. The parameters such as soil type, soil heterogeneity, time and washing process was investigated. The results indicated that the high efficiency of oil removal is obtained from sand where the clay loam gives the worst results. The results also reveal that, the high flushing and washing duration time can be attributed to the high percentage of mud in some sites over other sites. This means that the performance of surfactant flushing/water washing can be adversely affected by geologic heterogeneity. Finally, it’s suitable to use pressurized liquid technologies in heterogeneous media, but cleanup times will be longer and more difficult than for the other similar homogeneous media.

Abstract: Since its first report in December 2019, the novel coronavirus virus, SARS-CoV-2, has caused an unprecedented global health crisis and economic loss imposing a tremendous burden on the worldwide finance, healthcare system, and even daily life. Even with the introduction of different preventive vaccines, there is still a dire need for effective antiviral therapeutics. Nature has been considered as the historical trove of drug discovery and development, particularly in cases of worldwide crises. Herein, a comprehensive in silico investigation of a highly focused chemical library of 34 pederin-structurally related marine compounds, belonging to four polyketides families, was initiated against the SARS-CoV-2 main protease, Mpro, being the key replicating element of the virus and main target in many drugs development programs. Two of the most potent SARS-CoV-2 Mpro co-crystallized inhibitors, O6K and N3, were added to the tested database as reference standards. Through molecular docking simulation, promising compounds including Pederin (1), Dihydro-onnamide A (11), Onnamide C (14), Pseudo-onnamide A (17), and Theopederin G (29) have been identified from different families based on their superior ligand–protein energies and relevant binding profiles with the key Mpro pocket residues. Thermodynamic behaviors of the identified compounds were investigated through 200 ns all-atom molecular dynamics simulation illustrating their significant stability and pocket accommodation. Furthermore, structural activity preferentiality was identified for the pederin-based marine compounds highlighting the importance of the terminal guanidine and cyclic hemiacetal linker, and the length of the sidechain. Our findings highlight the challenges of targeting SARS-CoV-2 Mpro as well as recommending further in vitro and in vivo studies regarding the examined marine products either alone or in combination paving the way for promising lead molecules.
