Abstract: We study the fundamental question of dynamical tunneling in generic two-dimensional Hamiltonian systems by considering regular-to-chaotic tunneling rates. Experimentally, we use microwave spectra to investigate a mushroom billiard with adjustable foot height. Numerically, we obtain tunneling rates from high precision eigenvalues using the improved method of particular solutions. Analytically, a prediction is given by extending an approach using a fictitious integrable system to billiards. In contrast to previous approaches for billiards, we find agreement with experimental and numerical data without any free parameter.

Abstract: The performance comparison of three- and single-phase line-start interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (LSIPMSMs) and induction motors (IMs) with equal squirrel-cage design and symmetric four-pole stator windings is presented. The finite element method was employed in analysis of steady-state synchronous performance of LSIPMSMs. A magnetically linear lumped parameter model was employed in analysis of line-starting performance of LSIPMSMs, where the electrical and also the mechanical subsystems were considered. The procedure which was used for the LSIPMSM design was validated by comparison of calculation and measurement results. The performance of three- and single-phase LSIPMSMs and IMs with equal squirrel-cage design was directly compared and evaluated, thus emphasizing impacts of the permanent magnet breaking torque and reluctance breaking torque on the LSIPMSM performance in the asynchronous operation region.

Abstract: This paper describes a newly designed all-glass miniature (O 125 μm) fiber-optic pressure sensor design that is appropriate for high-volume manufacturing. The fabrication process is based on the chemical etching of specially-designed silica optical fiber, and involves a low number of critical production operations. The presented sensor design can be used with either single-mode or multi-mode lead-in fiber and is compatible with various types of available signal processing techniques. A practical sensor sensitivity exceeding 1000 nm/bar was achieved experimentally, which makes this sensor suitable for low-pressure measurements. The sensor showed high mechanical stability, good quality of optical surfaces, and very high tolerance to pressure overload.

Abstract: Numerous studies show that a successful implementation of inclusion of children with special needs (SN) largely depends on the teachers’ positive attitude towards it. The empirical research that is presented in the main part of the article analyses attitudes of a representative sample of Slovene teachers (n = 1360) regarding four domains of impact (impact of inclusion on pupils with SN, on peers, on teachers and on the classroom environment). In this, we controlled the role of the following two relevant characteristics of the sample: the category of SN (physical impairments, mild intellectual disabilities, learning difficulties and behavioural/emotional disorders) and the category of professional expertise of teachers in working with pupils with SN. We applied the Impact of Inclusion Questionnaire. The results show that teachers’ attitudes towards inclusion are determined by the type of SN the integrated pupils have. Abstract: A computational model for determination of service life of gears in regard to bending fatigue in a gear tooth root is presented. The fatigue process leading to tooth breakage is divided into crack initiation (Ni) and crack propagation (Np) period, where the complete service life is defined as N=Ni+Np . The strain-life method in the framework of the FEM method has been used to determine the number of stress cycles Ni required for the fatigue crack initiation. Gear tooth crack propagation was simulated using a FEM method based computer program which uses principles of linear elastic fracture mechanics. Paris equation is then used for the further simulation of the fatigue crack growth. The presented model is used for determination of service life of real spur gear made from through-hardened steel 42CrMo4.
