Abstract: Mixed benzoxazine precursors were synthesized using a blend of eugenol, a natural renewable product, and phenol. The structures of these mixed benzoxazine precursors with different phenol:eugenol compositions were attested by 1H NMR. Their polymerization and degradation were investigated and monitored by DSC and TGA and showed an enhancement of the crosslinking ability with the phenol content. Depending on its relative content, the phenol moiety proved to limit the thermal degradation of the bis-benzoxazine “hybrid” monomer and allowed the formation of crosslinked networks with high thermomechanical stabilities. The properties of the networks were closely dependent on the phenol:eugenol ratio, which allowed for adjustment of the crosslinking density and fine tuning of the glass transition temperature (Tg) within a wide temperature range. A comparison between the polymerized hybrid precursors and blend of two pure monomers displaying the same overall composition showed the same material properties increasing the tunability of the system. The eugenol/phenol combination for the preparation of mixed/hybrid benzoxazines or corresponding blends clearly paves the way to new sustainable high performance bio-based materials.

Abstract: A search for Z bosons in the mu^+mu^- decay channel has been performed in PbPb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon centre of mass energy = 2.76 TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC, in a 7.2 inverse microbarn data sample. The number of opposite-sign muon pairs observed in the 60--120 GeV/c^2 invariant mass range is 39, corresponding to a yield per unit of rapidity (y) and per minimum bias event of (33.8 +/- 5.5 (stat) +/- 4.4 (syst)) 10^{-8}, in the |y|<2.0 range. Rapidity, transverse momentum, and centrality dependencies are also measured. The results agree with next-to-leading order QCD calculations, scaled by the number of incoherent nucleon-nucleon collisions.

Abstract: Nearly every popular programming language comes with one or more open source software packaging ecosystem(s), containing a large collection of interdependent software packages developed in that programming language. Such packaging ecosystems are extremely useful for their respective software development community. We present an empirical analysis of how the dependency graphs of three large packaging ecosystems (npm, CRAN and RubyGems) evolve over time. We study how the existing package dependencies impact the resilience of the three ecosystems over time and to which extent these ecosystems suffer from issues related to package dependency updates. We analyse specific solutions that each ecosystem has put into place and argue that none of these solutions is perfect, motivating the need for better tools to deal with package dependency update problems.

Abstract: A search for narrow, high-mass resonances decaying to electron or muon pairs has been performed using pp collision data collected at sqrt(s)=7 TeV by the CMS experiment in 2011. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 5 inverse femtobarns. The event yields observed in the signal regions are consistent with predictions of the standard model backgrounds, and upper limits on the cross section times branching fraction for a resonance decaying to dileptons are extracted from a shape analysis of the dilepton invariant mass distribution. The resulting mass limits at 95% confidence level are 2330 GeV for the Z' in the Sequential Standard Model, 2000 GeV for the superstring-inspired Z'(psi) resonance, 890 (540) GeV for the Stueckelberg extension Z'(St) with the mass parameter epsilon=0.06 (0.04), and 2140 (1810) GeV for Kaluza--Klein gravitons with the coupling parameter k/Mbar(Pl) of 0.10 (0.05). These limits are the most stringent to date.
