Prevalence of Apparent Treatment-Resistant Hypertension in the United States According to the 2017 High Blood Pressure Guideline.

TL;DR: On the basis of the 2017 high blood pressure guideline, the prevalence of aTR‐hypertension is 15.95% in US adults with treated hypertension, which represents an absolute increase of 4% compared with the JNC 7 guideline definition, with a consistent increase across all subpopulations withtreated hypertension.

A 2020 Vision of Hypertension

TL;DR: The change in definition of hypertension in the American guideline highlights the need to identify and manage hypertension early, at a stage when it is potentially reversible.

Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonists for Nephroprotection: Current Evidence and Future Perspectives.

TL;DR: In this article, a review of the literature in relevance to data evaluating the effect of MRA on renal outcomes is presented, with spironolactone and eplerenone added to single RAS-blockade showed that these agents are associated with greater reductions in urine albumin or protein excretion compared to either placebo or dual RASblockade.

Screening Rates for Primary Aldosteronism Among Individuals With Hypertension Plus Hypokalemia: A Population-Based Retrospective Cohort Study

- 01 Jan 2022 -
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors performed a population-based retrospective cohort study of adults ≥18 years old in Ontario, Canada, with hypertension plus hypokalemia (potassium < 3.5 mEq/L) from 2009 to 2015 with follow-up through 2017.

Prognostic role of masked and white-coat hypertension: 10-Year mortality in treated elderly hypertensives.

TL;DR: In this real-life study on treated elderly hypertensives, MUCH was associated with higher risk of death, compared to SCH and SUCH, while WUCH was not, and ABPM is a key tool to improve management and therefore prognosis in this subpopulation.

Measuring inconsistency in meta-analyses

TL;DR: A new quantity is developed, I 2, which the authors believe gives a better measure of the consistency between trials in a meta-analysis, which is susceptible to the number of trials included in the meta- analysis.

Bias in meta-analysis detected by a simple, graphical test

TL;DR: Funnel plots, plots of the trials' effect estimates against sample size, are skewed and asymmetrical in the presence of publication bias and other biases Funnel plot asymmetry, measured by regression analysis, predicts discordance of results when meta-analyses are compared with single large trials.

Quantifying heterogeneity in a meta‐analysis

TL;DR: It is concluded that H and I2, which can usually be calculated for published meta-analyses, are particularly useful summaries of the impact of heterogeneity, and one or both should be presented in publishedMeta-an analyses in preference to the test for heterogeneity.
