Withholding Versus Continuing Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors or Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers Before Noncardiac Surgery: An Analysis of the Vascular Events in Noncardiac Surgery Patients Cohort Evaluation Prospective Cohort

TL;DR: It is shown that withholding these drugs before major noncardiac surgery in this study was correlated with a lower risk of death and postoperative vascular events, and should be further studied in larger randomized trials to corroborate the findings that withholding ACEIs/ARBs leads to improved patient outcomes and reduced risk of perioperative hypotension.

White-Coat Hypertension as a Risk Factor for the Development of Home Hypertension: The Ohasama Study

TL;DR: The results from the present 8-year follow-up study demonstrate that white-coat hypertension is a transitional condition to hypertension outside medical settings, suggesting that white -coat hypertension may carry a poor cardiovascular prognosis.

Clinical consequences of withholding versus administering renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system antagonists in the preoperative period

TL;DR: Assessment of the clinical consequences of preoperatively continuing versus withholding preoperative ACEI/ARAs in patients treated chronically with these agents found that preoperative administration of ACEI or ARA increases intraoperative hypotension.

Prevalence of apparent treatment-resistant hypertension among individuals with CKD.

TL;DR: After multivariable adjustment, men, black race, larger waist circumference, diabetes, history of myocardial infarction or stroke, statin use, and lower estimated GFR and higher albumin-to-creatinine ratio levels were associated with apparent treatment-resistant hypertension among individuals with CKD.

Isolated systolic hypertension is associated with adverse outcomes from coronary artery bypass grafting surgery

TL;DR: It is concluded that isolated systolic hypertension is associated with a 40% increase in the likelihood of cardiovascular morbidity perioperatively in CABG patients, and remains present regardless of antihypertensive medications, anesthetic techniques, and other perioperative cardiovascular risk factors.
