TLDR
This sensitive chromogen system not only permits use of unusually small sample volumes, it also facilitates a linear response to serum triglyceride concentrations up to at least 10 g/L while displaying good Ringbom (measure of accuracy) characteristics.
Abstract
We describe an enzymatic method for rapid, precise measurement of serum triglycerides with use of sample:reagent ratios as large as 1:200. Hydrolysis of triglycerides is catalyzed by lipase to produce glycerol and free fatty acids. The glycerol generated is then phosphorylated by adenosine 5'-triphosphate in the presence of glycerol kinase. Oxidation of the resulting glycerol 3-phosphate to produce hydrogen peroxide is catalyzed by L-alpha-glycerophosphate oxidase. An intense red chromogen is produced by the peroxidase-catalyzed coupling of 4-aminoantipyrene and sodium 2-hydroxy-3,5-dichlorobenzenesulfonate with hydrogen peroxide. This sensitive chromogen system not only permits use of unusually small sample volumes, it also facilitates a linear response to serum triglyceride concentrations up to at least 10 g/L while displaying good Ringbom (measure of accuracy) characteristics.

Differences in risk factors, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular disease between ethnic groups in Canada: the Study of Health Assessment and Risk in Ethnic groups (SHARE)

TL;DR: In this article, the authors conducted a population-based study of three ethnic groups in Canada: South Asians, Chinese, and Europeans, and found that the degree of carotid atherosclerosis was associated with a higher prevalence of cardiovascular disease.

The lipid treatment assessment project (L-TAP): a multicenter survey to evaluate the percentages of dyslipidemic patients receiving lipid-lowering therapy and achieving low-density lipoprotein cholesterol goals.

TL;DR: For example, this paper found that only 38% of patients achieved NCEP-specified LDL-C target levels; success rates were 68% among low-risk patients, 37% among high-risk patents, and 18% among patients with coronary heart disease (CHD).

Beta-cell lipotoxicity in the pathogenesis of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus of obese rats: impairment in adipocyte-beta-cell relationships

TL;DR: A role for hyperlipacidemia in the pathogenesis of NIDDM is suggested; resistance to insulin-mediated antilipolysis is invoked to explain the high FFA despite hyperinsulinemia, and sensitivity of beta cells to hyperlipacedemia is invokedto explain the FFA-induced loss of GSIS.

Antibodies to cachectin/tumor necrosis factor reduce interleukin 1 beta and interleukin 6 appearance during lethal bacteremia.

TL;DR: It is suggested that cachectin/TNF is essential for the initiation or amplification of IL-1 and IL-6 release during lethal gram-negative septic shock syndrome.

Safety and Efficacy of Bempedoic Acid to Reduce LDL Cholesterol.

TL;DR: In this 52‐week trial, bempedoic acid added to maximally tolerated statin therapy did not lead to a higher incidence of overall adverse events than placebo and led to significantly lower LDL cholesterol levels.

Apparent mitochondrial creatine kinase in the serum of a patient with metastatic cancer to the liver.

TL;DR: Creatine kinase activity in the serum of a patient with metastatic carcinoma migrated as two distinct bands cathodal to the origin and to CK-3 on agarose gel electrophoresis, suggesting the mitochondrial origin of these isoenzymes.

The application of a sensitive uricase-peroxidase coupled reaction to a centrifugal fast analyser for the determination of uric acid

TL;DR: A uricase-peroxidase coupled system, for the determination of uric acid, applied to a CentrifiChem-500 centrifugal fast analyser is described, which has incorporated the advantages of increased sensitivity, over phenol-4-aminoantipyrene systems, as well as the amenability of the reagent towards lyophilization or "dry-fill".

The determination of lecithin and total choline-containing phospholipids in amniotic fluid employing enzymes as reagents

TL;DR: Two assays which employ enzymes as reagents for the determination of lecithin and TCCP in amniotic fluid are described, relatively quick, simple, inexpensive, precise, involve no extractions, and are amenable to automation.

A procedure for the determination of high-density lipoprotein choline-containing phospholipids.

TL;DR: There would appear to be a correlation between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and choline-containing phospholipids, which have previously been determined in relation to liver disease, neoplastic disorders, diabetes mellitus and atherosclerosis.
