Abstract
Advances in theory and algorithms for electronic structure calculations must be incorporated into program packages to enable them to become routinely used by the broader chemical community. This work reviews advances made over the past five years or so that constitute the major improvements contained in a new release of the Q-Chem quantum chemistry package, together with illustrative timings and applications. Specific developments discussed include fast methods for density functional theory calculations, linear scaling evaluation of energies, NMR chemical shifts and electric properties, fast auxiliary basis function methods for correlated energies and gradients, equation-of-motion coupled cluster methods for ground and excited states, geminal wavefunctions, embedding methods and techniques for exploring potential energy surfaces.

DF-DFT-SAPT Investigation of the Interaction of a Water Molecule to Coronene and Dodecabenzocoronene: Implications for the Water−Graphite Interaction

TL;DR: In this article, the density fitting-density functional theory-symmetry-adapted perturbation theory (DF-DFT-SAPT) method is used to calculate the individual contributions arising from the interaction of a water molecule with various acenes, including benzene, coronene, and dodecabenzocoronene.

Stabilization of different types of transition states in a single enzyme active site: QM/MM analysis of enzymes in the alkaline phosphatase superfamily.

TL;DR: Analysis of the structural features of computed transition states indicates that the plastic nature of the bimetallic site plays a minor role in accommodating multiple types of transition states and that the high degree of solvent accessibility of the AP active site also contributes to its ability to stabilize diverse transition-state structures without the need of causing large structural distortions of thebimetallic motif.

Oxygen Reduction Catalyzed by a Fluorinated Tetraphenylporphyrin Free Base at Liquid/Liquid Interfaces

TL;DR: Spectrophotometric measurements performed in 1,2-dichloroethane solutions clearly evidence that reduction of oxygen by Fc catalyzed by H(4)FAP(2+) only occurs in the presence of the tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)borate (TB(-)) counteranion in the organic phase.

Long-range corrected density functional theory study on static second hyperpolarizabilities of singlet diradical systems.

TL;DR: Within the spin-unrestricted density functional theory (DFT) the long-range correction (LC) scheme combined with the Becke-Lee-Yang-Parr exchange-correlation functional has been applied to the calculation of the second hyperpolarizability of open-shell singlet diradical systems of increasing complexity and has demonstrated good performance.

Exploiting locality in quantum computation for quantum chemistry

TL;DR: In this article, the authors bring together known results about the locality of physical interactions from quantum chemistry with ideas from quantum computation and show that the utilization of spatial locality combined with the Bravyi-Kitaev transformation offers an improvement in the scaling of known quantum algorithms for quantum chemistry.

Density‐functional thermochemistry. III. The role of exact exchange

TL;DR: In this article, a semi-empirical exchange correlation functional with local spin density, gradient, and exact exchange terms was proposed. But this functional performed significantly better than previous functionals with gradient corrections only, and fits experimental atomization energies with an impressively small average absolute deviation of 2.4 kcal/mol.

Gaussian basis sets for use in correlated molecular calculations. I. The atoms boron through neon and hydrogen

TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed study of correlation effects in the oxygen atom was conducted, and it was shown that primitive basis sets of primitive Gaussian functions effectively and efficiently describe correlation effects.

General atomic and molecular electronic structure system

TL;DR: A description of the ab initio quantum chemistry package GAMESS, which can be treated with wave functions ranging from the simplest closed‐shell case up to a general MCSCF case, permitting calculations at the necessary level of sophistication.
