TLDR
In this paper, the authors focus on the role of agriculture and fishing in the European level in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and show that agriculture dominates in terms of direct contribution to GDP and numbers of people engaged in it, as well as accounting for the largest amount of public support expenditure.
Abstract
Agriculture and fishing are the primary source of almost all our food, as well as of many other products, so remain vital activities even though their share in the economy is small and in continuous decline. Partly for this reason public policy in these areas is almost entirely integrated at European level in the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). Forestry policies are also heavily affected by EU-level decision-making. As agriculture dominates in terms of direct contribution to GDP and numbers of people engaged in it, as well as accounting for the largest amount of public support expenditure, it is agriculture that will receive the greatest attention here.

Organic food certification in South Africa: a private sector mechanism in need of state regulation?

TL;DR: In South Africa, the organic sector pioneered private practices and systems in small informal groups to guide the public and private sectors on environmental and sustainability issues as discussed by the authors, which is applicable in the country consisting of network certification and third-party certification in collaboration with foreign and locally-based certification organisations.

Monetary Policy Actions and Agricultural Sector Outcomes: Empirical Evidence from South Africa

TL;DR: In this article, the impact of monetary policy on agricultural gross domestic product in South Africa using vector error correction model (VECM) was investigated and it was found that inflationary shocks and the money market rate have an enormous negative impact on the performance of the agricultural GDP whilst the manufacturing index and the stock market help to improve the agricultural economy.

Efficiency and Profitability Analysis of Agricultural Cooperatives in Mpumalanga, South Africa

TL;DR: Xaba et al. as discussed by the authors presented an efficiency and profitability analysis of agricultural cooperatives in Mpumalanga, South Africa, and found that the cooperatives achieved the best performance among all the agricultural co-ops in South Africa.

The profit-maximising feeding period for different breeds of beef cattle

TL;DR: The results indicate that breeds can be differentiated in terms of genetic production potential and additional gross profit can be generated by each breed by feeding them according to their unique PMFP.

New microsatellite markers for the abalone Haliotis midae developed by 454 pyrosequencing and in silico analyses.

TL;DR: 82 polymorphic microsatellite loci are identified and characterized by using repeat-enriched genomic libraries and high-throughput pyrosequencing technology that would be useful for parentage, population and linkage studies in Haliotis midae.
