An overview of time-based and condition-based maintenance in industrial application

TLDR
It can be concluded that the application of the CBM technique is more realistic, and thus more worthwhile to apply, than the TBM one, however, further research on CBM must be carried out in order to make it more realistic for making maintenance decisions.

A criticality importance-based spare ordering policy for multi-component degraded systems

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper proposed a criticality importance-based spare ordering policy for multi-component degraded systems, which considers both the operating condition of a system and the availability of spares.

Using Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to Predict Shutdown Maintenance

TL;DR: This research proposes an approach to predict equipment condition using OEE performance metrics and the results suggesting that there is a correlation between the Time Between Stoppages and the trend degree of the Mean and/or the Standard Deviation of cycle time.

Hierarchical Decomposition of a Manufacturing Work Cell to Promote Monitoring, Diagnostics, and Prognostics

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus on decomposing a work cell into a hierarchical structure to understand the physical and functional relationships among the system's critical elements, which can be leveraged to identify areas of risk, which would drive a manufacturer to implement PHM within specific areas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of the maintenance cost and analysis of availability measures in a finite life cycle for a system subject to competing failures

TL;DR: Recursive methods combining numerical integration and Monte Carlo simulation are developed to evaluate the expected cost rate and its standard deviation and recursive methods to calculate the reliability, the availability and the interval reliability of the system are given.

Censored lifetime learning: Optimal Bayesian age-replacement policies

TL;DR: This work considers a sequence of age-replacement problems with a general lifetime distribution parametrized by an a-priori unknown parameter and proposes a myopic Bayesian policy that almost surely learns theunknown parameter and converges to the optimal policy with full knowledge of the parameter.

A review on machinery diagnostics and prognostics implementing condition-based maintenance

TL;DR: This paper attempts to summarise and review the recent research and developments in diagnostics and prognostics of mechanical systems implementing CBM with emphasis on models, algorithms and technologies for data processing and maintenance decision-making.

Remaining useful life estimation - A review on the statistical data driven approaches

TL;DR: This paper systematically reviews the recent modeling developments for estimating the RUL and focuses on statistical data driven approaches which rely only on available past observed data and statistical models.

Optimum Preventive Maintenance Policies

TL;DR: In this paper, two types of preventive maintenance policies are considered, and the optimum policies are determined, in each case, as unique solutions of certain integral equations depending on the failure distribution.

Condition monitoring and fault detection of wind turbines and related algorithms: A review

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed different techniques, methodologies and algorithms developed to monitor the performance of wind turbine as well as for an early fault detection to keep away the wind turbines from catastrophic conditions due to sudden breakdowns.

Applications of maintenance optimization models : a review and analysis

TL;DR: An overview of applications of maintenance optimization models published so far and the role of these models in maintenance is analyzed and the factors which may have hampered applications are discussed.
