Allopurinol, an inhibitor of xanthine oxidase, improves the development of IVM/IVF bovine embryos (>4 cell) in vitro under certain culture conditions

TL;DR: Results suggested that a portion of the free oxygen radicals are generated from the XOD and HXT reactions under culture conditions, and this generation is enhanced by high oxygen tension in the gas atmosphere or by high glucose concentrations in the medium.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antidiabetic Properties of 2,5-Dihydroxy-4,3′-Di(β-D-Glucopyranosyloxy)-trans-Stilbene from Mulberry (Morus bombycis Koidzumi) Root in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

TL;DR: The histological observations showed that DGTS prevented atrophy of pancreatic beta-cells and vascular degenerative changes in the islets and might be beneficial in the treatment of type 1 diabetes.

Ellagic acid inhibits PKC signaling by improving antioxidant defense system in murine T cell lymphoma

TL;DR: The treatment ofellenagic acid significantly increases the activity and expression of antioxidant enzymes and down regulates the expression of classical isozymes of PKC as well as the activation of NF-κB, indicating that ellagic acid improves antioxidant defense system and PKC signaling via NF-σB which may contribute to its cancer preventive role.

In vitro effect of methanol on folate-deficient rat hepatocytes.

TL;DR: It is suggested that Vitamin E exerts a protective effect on hepatocytes by acting as a free radical scavenger, proving its usefulness in treating methanol toxicity.
