TLDR
It is suggested that distinct subgroups of patients with elevated AA or DE can be identified within the broader diagnosis of schizophrenia and that these subgroups show clinically meaningful differences in presentation.About:

TL;DR: In contrast to the validated scales for face-to-face assessment of negative symptoms, no widely accepted tools currently exist for remote monitoring of negative symptom as discussed by the authors , which can be broadly divided into three categories: 1) remote administration of an existing negative-symptom scale by a clinician, in real time, using videoconference technology to communicate with the patient; 2) direct inference of positive symptoms through detection and analysis of the patient's voice, appearance or activity by way of a smartphone or other device; and 3) ecological momentary assessment (EMA), in which the patient self-reports their condition upon receiving of periodic prompts from a smartphone during their daily routine.

Behavioral outputs of negative symptom domains of schizophrenia
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors validate the hypothesis that negative symptoms of schizophrenia encompass two domains, namely avolition-apathy (AA) and diminished expression (DE), and investigate the relationship of these domains with behavioral outputs which imply hedonic activities: Cigarette use and weight gain.

TL;DR: The Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BRS) as mentioned in this paper was developed to provide a rapid assessment technique particularly suited to the evaluation of patient change, and it is recommended for use where efficiency, speed, and economy are important considerations.

Cluster analysis
TL;DR: Cluster analysis is a multivariate procedure for detecting natural groupings in data that resembles discriminant analysis in one respect—the researcher seeks to classify a set of objects into subgroups although neither the number nor members of the subgroups are known.

Negative Symptoms in Schizophrenia: Definition and Reliability
TL;DR: The developed Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms has excellent interrater reliability and the five symptom complexes defined by the scale have good internal consistency, which indicates that the conceptual organization of the scale is also cohesive.
