Identification of the gene encoding BmpB, a 30 kDa outer envelope lipoprotein of Brachyspira (Serpulina) hyodysenteriae, and immunogenicity of recombinant BmpB in mice and pigs

TL;DR: A gene encoding a 30kDa outer envelope protein of the intestinal spirochaete Brachyspira (Serpulina) hyodysenteriae, was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli strain XLOLR, and the gene has homology with the gene (plp3) encoding Plp3, an outer membrane lipoprotein of Pasteurella haemolytica.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intensive (commercial) systems for breeding sows and piglets to weaning

TL;DR: This chapter describes and discusses some of the present day housing systems in the breeding section, dry sow unit and farrowing and lactation units in commercial pig production, wherein an attempt is made to have an efficient use of the available resources in the northern temperate zone.
Journal ArticleDOI

Detection of porcine parvovirus using a taqman-based real-time PCR with primers and probe designed for the NS1 gene.

TL;DR: A TaqMan-based real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was devised for the detection of porcine parvovirus (PPV) and was specific and reproducible, and can be practically used for studying the epidemiology and management of PPV.
Journal ArticleDOI

A case study of an outbreak of African swine fever in Spain

TL;DR: The Spanish ASF eradication programme as carried out in the field at producer level is described and an understanding of the long-term risk of carrier animals, wild European pigs, vector ticks and biting flies as a cause of the persistence in endemic areas of recrudescence of ASF in areas from which the disease was previously eradicated is gained.
Journal ArticleDOI

Salmonella enterica serovar Choleraesuis infection of the porcine jejunal Peyer's patch rapidly induces IL-1β and IL-8 expression

TL;DR: It is indicated that Salmonella uptake by Peyer's patch is important in the induction of an innate response involving expression of IL-1beta and IL-8, and that ex vivo intestinal immune tissue explants provide an intact tissue model that will facilitate investigation of mucosal immunity in swine.
