Transmissible gastroenteritis coronavirus gene 7 is not essential but influences in vivo virus replication and virulence.
Javier Ortego,Isabel Sola,Fernando Almazán,Juan E. Ceriani,Cristina Riquelme,Monica Balasch,Juan Plana,Luis Enjuanes +7 more
TL;DR: Interestingly, in vivo infections with rTGEV-Δ7 showed an additional reduction in virus replication in the lung and gut, and in virulence, indicating that TGEV gene 7 influences virus pathogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anatomical particularities of the porcine immune system - a physician's view.
TL;DR: Based on the detailed knowledge of porcine immune morphology the pig is suitable as model animal for immunology--in addition to the various experimental approaches in physiology, pharmacology, surgery, etc. that are applicable to human medicine.
Journal ArticleDOI
The porcine acute phase protein response to acute clinical and subclinical experimental infection with Streptococcus suis.
Nanna Skall Sørensen,Conny Tegtmeier,Lars Ole Andresen,Matilde Piñeiro,M.J.M. Toussaint,Fiona Margaret Campbell,Fermín Lampreave,Peter M. H. Heegaard +7 more
TL;DR: Both acute clinical and subclinical S. suis infection could be revealed by the measurement of one or more of the APPs CRP, SAA, Hp, pig-MAP and Apo A-I, and the combined measurement of two or three APPs should be used to achieve the highest sensitivity for the detection of ongoing S.suis infection during a prolonged time period.
Journal ArticleDOI
Birth abnormalities in pregnant sows infected intranasally with porcine circovirus 2.
TL;DR: The experiment suggested that PCV2 is capable of crossing the placenta, replicating primarily in lymphoid tissues, and inducing reproductive failure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development and inter-laboratory validation study of an improved new real-time PCR assay with internal control for detection and laboratory diagnosis of African swine fever virus.
Marylène Tignon,Carmina Gallardo,Carmen Iscaro,Evelyne Hutet,Yves Van der Stede,Denis Kolbasov,Gian Mario De Mia,Marie-Frédérique Le Potier,Richard P. Bishop,Marisa Arias,Frank Koenen +10 more
TL;DR: An improved and rigorously validated real-time PCR assay with internal control will provide a rapid, sensitive and reliable molecular tool for ASFV detection in pigs in newly infected areas, control in endemic areas and surveillance in ASF-free areas.
